LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. 15.01 When a teacher under probationary or permanent contract with the Board is pre- scheduled to be absent from teaching duty and the Board decides to replace the contract teacher with a Long-term Occasional Teacher, and the Board has two (2) weeks notice prior to the beginning of the assignment, the Board shall post the position on a bulletin board in each school. A copy of such postings shall be mailed to the Association and the Local Executive, with a copy to the Eastern Ontario Unit of OECTA. The final selection will be based on the applicant who is the most qualified and suitable for the position.

LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. 15.01 The Association recognizes the right of the Board to assign the teachers it considers suitable for long-term assignments based on the qualifications and experience of the teachers, the grade and/or subjects to be taught, and other factors reasonable for the particular assignment. Therefore, when the Board decides to assign an Occasional Teacher to a long-term assignment, it shall do as follows:
LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. Long Term Occasional Assignments will be determined as per Part A, Central Terms, Article 17 and applicable regulations or statutes.
LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. 15.01 Subject to Part A – Central Terms, Article 17: Hiring Practices, the Board shall post available positions of longer than 30 days on a bulletin board in each school, on the Board website, and on “Apply to Education”. A copy of such postings shall be emailed to the Eastern Ontario Unit of OECTA.
LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. The Board shall endeavour to provide a list of known Long Term Occasional positions on a monthly basis to the President of the Union. Before filling any Long Term Occasional assignments, the Board shall advertise such assignment on the Board’s enterprise portal. Prior to external hiring and depending on the limitations of qualifications, the Board shall make every reasonable effort to hire a teacher from the Occasional Teacher List to fill any vacancy arising owing to the death of a teacher during the school year. Prior to external hiring for Long Term Occasional Teacher positions, and depending on qualifications and ability, the Board shall make every reasonable effort to hire Long Term Occasional Teachers from the list of Short Term Occasional Teachers who have indicated that they are willing to do a Long Term Occasional assignment.
LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. When hiring for Long Term Occasional assignments the Board shall give first consideration to applications received from members of the bargaining unit. The Principals will follow the Board’s hiring criteria when reviewing applications, qualifications, conducting interviews and completing reference checks for candidates being considered. It is understood that full-time Occasional Teachers who have already accepted long term assignments for some or all of the period covered by the posted assignment are not eligible to be considered for the position unless the Executive Officer of Human Resources has given prior approval that they may be considered for the position. It is also understood that any Long Term Occasional Teacher may terminate their contract to accept a probationary contract. Permanent Vacancies When hiring for permanent vacancies the Board shall give first consideration to applications received from members of the bargaining unit. The Principals will follow the Board’s hiring criteria when reviewing applications, qualifications, conducting interviews and completing reference checks for candidates being considered.
LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. Terms outlined in Article 14 shall be consistent with Article 17 of Part A – Central Terms.

Therefore, when the Board decides to assign an Occasional Teacher to a long-term assignment, the name, experience, qualifications and teachables, any additional qualifications, and other information relevant to the position provided on each of the Occasional Teachers on the “A” list, and on the “B” list if there are no qualified applicants from the “A” list, who make application shall be provided to the principal(s) or designate(s) responsible for short listing, interviewing, and selecting the Occasional to be assigned as provided in sub-Article 15.01 (b) and the following procedures shall be followed in making long-term assignments.
