486 Teaching Assignments Clause Examples for Any Agreement

Teaching Assignments. A. Teaching is a profession: therefore, teachers should have some flexibility in setting his/her own work day. However, teachers agree to be on duty and to work the hours required to accomplish their total teaching assignment and responsibility. Because of the basic differences which exist in the amount of planning, paperwork, curriculum study, extra-curricular supervision and other duties, it is impossible to keep the teaching day on a completely equal schedule. However, in fairness to pupils, parents and teachers and in the interest of some uniformity, the following should be observed: B. Teachers shall report to their classrooms at least thirty (30) minutes before the opening of the pupil’s regular school day in the morning. Teachers shall be permitted to leave thirty (30) minutes after the close of the pupil’s regular school day. Teachers are encouraged to remain for a sufficient period of time after the close of the pupil’s school day to attend to those matters which require attention, including consultation with parents as scheduled by or with approval of the teacher. C. While ensuring the right of a classroom teacher to have a continuous teaching day, the School Board, with consultation of the principal and assistant principals, reserves the right to vary school openings and/or vary an individual teacher’s starting time if the best interests of the school and the students can thusly be served. If the starting times of individual classroom teachers in a particular building vary, the Association shall be apprised of the educational reason or reasons for the variance. D. All teachers agree to make themselves available for student and parent conferences. All teachers shall attend meetings called by the administration as a regular part of their teaching assignments unless otherwise excused by the administration. Sufficient notice of such meetings and agendas will be given when practicable. E. It is the responsibility of each individual teacher, as well as the Board, to provide the highest quality education program practicable for each student in the school district, thus the teacher shall continue to use the school day for: 1. Planning and preparing for their classes. (Careful daily, weekly and semester preparation.) Each teacher will have at least five planning periods per week appear in the master schedule. Teaching Assignments. No employee shall be assigned to teach in a grade level and/or subject area not within the scope of his/her teaching certificate, except where a position within his/her certification is unavailable or when mutually agreed to by the affected employee and principal, or when determined necessary by the principal. Employees assigned to positions outside the scope of their certificates shall be assigned as soon as possible to positions for which they hold certification.

Teaching Assignments. 14-1 Teachers shall be notified of their tentative subject areas, grade level assignments, and building assignments for the following school year, insofar as possible, no later than May 15 of each year. Such teachers shall be notified of any change pertaining to school assignment within a school as soon as practicable. 14-2 1 Teachers using their own automobile to travel between schools, or in conjunction with their assigned job responsibilities, will be reimbursed for all authorized and documented travel at the rate allowed by the I.R.S. regulations or Board policy, whichever is greater. 14-3 The parties recognize that a teacher’s primary responsibility is to teach and that the teacher’s energies should, to the greatest extent possible, be utilized to this end; therefore, non-teaching assignments shall be kept to a minimum. 14-4 Teachers shall not be required by the District to transport pupils at any time. 14-5 If a change in assignment becomes necessary, the principal or appropriate program administrator will engage teacher(s) who might be affected. The process will take into account the program needs of the building, and will consider those who have volunteered for the assignment. A consensus decision is preferred; however, in the absence of such decision, the principal or appropriate program administrator has the responsibility to decide based on the following considerations: 1. Teaching Assignments. Teaching assignments in the regional campuses are made by the Xxxx of the local regional campus and are contingent upon the materialization through sufficient enrollment of those courses which have been scheduled.

Teaching Assignments. 13.07.1 In exceptional circumstances and upon consultation and agreement with the Faculty Association, a Faculty Member may request and, at the discretion of the Xxxx, be assigned a work overload in one semester of an academic year with a comparable reduction in the subsequent semester. 13.07.2 Scheduled contact hours each day shall not exceed six hours and not span a period greater than ten hours without the consent of the Faculty Member. 13.07.3 Scheduled classes on successive days shall require a fifteen hour break between teaching assignments unless otherwise requested by the Faculty Member.

Licensure The Board and the Association recognize that teacher license requirements are established by the State to assure minimal standards of teacher preparation and that failure by the school system to secure, for initial employment, persons meeting minimum State licensure requirements reduces the quality of education and the status of the teaching profession. Therefore, except in emergencies, in order to assure that pupils are taught by teachers working within their areas of competence, teachers shall not be assigned outside the scope of their teaching license and/ or their major or minor fields of study for more than two (2) consecutive semesters. 2. Equitable Distribution In establishing the teacher’s schedule assignment, the teacher shall have an equitable distribution of scholastic abilities within his/her schedule assignment if he/she so desires. Schedules will be arranged in each school so as to provide an equitable number of preparations per teacher.

Teaching Assignments. Day, Evening, Extension, Saturday, Summer Session, Short Courses, Substitutes - All hourly teaching employment for day assignments, summer session, short courses, and substitution will be compensated at the appropriate LECTURE/LABORATORY RATE. During Final Examination week, three lecture hours will be recorded for lecture or lecture/laboratory classes and three laboratory hours for pure laboratory classes. Exception: Cooperative Work Experience classes are paid for one lecture hour for Final Examination Week.

Timetabling and preparing teacher assignments shall be based on: the number of course preparations and subject areas involved; staff qualifications, training and experience; teacher preferences; the number of classroom locations; and the balance among staff assignments. The teaching staff shall be consulted concerning timetable constraints and scheduling options prior to assignments being finalized. Wherever possible, special consideration shall be given to the assignments of beginning teachers. 2. The Staff Committee may make recommendations regarding timetabling and teacher assignments. 3. A staff meeting shall be held prior to May 30 for the purpose of discussing the proposed timetable and staff assignments for the following school year. 4. If a change in assignment is made, the teacher will be notified as soon as it is known. 5. A teacher who objects to the assignment in the school may request a meeting with the Superintendent or designate, and/or Administrative Officer to discuss the assignment.
