While the schools received extensive upgrades and improvements over the years, the Long Range Facility Master Plan showed that the site needs significant improvements. Based on the comprehensive planning study, and an Assessment recently completed, the District concluded that Xxxx Xxxx Language Academy is to have a Whole Site Modernization of all existing permanent buildings, a new two-story classroom building, new PE locker building, new administration building, expansion of kindergarten building and expansion of kitchen building. The intent of the project at Xxxx Xxxx Language Academy is to fully remodel the campus, refurbish all classrooms and interior spaces, paint and re-roof all existing buildings, and create new exterior learning and play spaces. Note that this description is of major scope elements and is not intended to be a comprehensive description of every element of the project.

In an effort to provide a quality school in every neighborhood, the district is using Propositions S, Z and Measure YY funds to repair, renovate and revitalize district schools. This project is being funded with Proposition Z and Measure YY Charter funds. The existing building at 0000 Xxxxxx Xxxx was constructed in 1984. Modernization was performed on the building and site in 2017-2018 to prepare the property for sale. The existing building is a tilt-up concrete shell building with an open second floor encompassing approximately one-half of the building interior. The District purchased the building in October 2018 for occupancy of Innovations Academy Charter School. The project schedule is extremely important. The District requires substantial completion/beneficial occupancy by the school to be obtained by March 23, 2020. It will be Balfour Xxxxxx Construction’s responsibility to sequence and schedule the work required in the plans, specifications and RFP documents to achieve the substantial completion date on or before March 23, 2020 with 2 additional months for punch list items. The Balfour Xxxxxx Construction will be responsible as part of this contract to relocate the school from the existing site in Scripps Ranch to the new location beginning March 23, 2020. Relocation is estimated to take 2 days and will allow the school the remaining 3 days to set-up classrooms and be ready for instruction on March 30, 2020.
