Work Required. Area A - 1.3ha – Intact peat with 0.75x0.75m semi impeded drains. This surface is very wet Bunded cells Appendix 5 of 30x30m need to be constructed across the site with attention where the bunds cross the drains. All degraded peat/vegetation needs to be removed before good ‘clay like’ peat is used to fill the drain. • Bund/cell construction – Bunds will be 150mm high x 0.75 - 1m wide bund. Construction as follows: o Remove about 0.75m to 1m width of vegetation (Put to side to be re used in covering the bund). o Dig out the thin layer of degraded peat possibly up to 0.5 m deep until you reach ‘clay like’ peat. o Check this surface for cracks etc (If cracks are found then dig out to the bottom of the crack, then return the peat and squash in to seal the crack) o Create a borrow pit on the uphill side of the bund and acquire good ‘clay like ‘ peat which is then used to top off the peat in the trench to a height of 150mm above ground level. Squash and form the peat into an appropriate shape and top with vegetation. o Any degraded peat/tree roots to be put in borrow pit and the borrow pit flattened off as much as possible. o Borrow pits must be separate and not joined up to form a new ditch. o Bund to be covered with previously removed turf stretched to cover the bund surface. o This bund will link to cells via bunds at 90 degrees that will be constructed on the upper surface Area B - 3.7ha - Intact peat containing drains around 0.75x0.75m, standing dead trees and previously cut but still growing rhododendron clumps.
