Use of Funeral Leave. Funeral leave shall be taken in full day or tour increments. Funeral leave days must be consecutive work days and include the day of the funeral. Where the day of the funeral is on a day the employee is otherwise not scheduled to work, a consecutive work day will be scheduled with the approval of the Employer. Should an employee require additional paid time, other than what is provided herein, the employee shall provide a written request to the Sheriff. Upon the approval of the Sheriff, such additional time approved by the Sheriff/Designee will be charged against the employee’s balance of compensatory time, personal days, or vacation leave, at the employee’s option.

Use of Funeral Leave. An employee working a 40 hour work week is entitled to thirty-two (32) hours’ funeral leave for a death in the immediate family or a close relative. A 24/48-hour shift employee is entitled to two (2) tours of duty, not to exceed forty-eight (48) hours. For the purpose of this section, immediate family is defined as spouse, child, or natural parent. A close relative is defined as any member of the immediate family, plus a brother, sister, mother-in-law or father-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, or current stepfather or stepmother. The funeral leave shall include the date of the funeral and/or the day(s) after death, unless the event occurs on the employee’s day off, in which case the funeral leave shall include the employee’s work day closest to the date of the funeral/death. An employee may extend funeral leave with the approval of the Chief with the use of sick time. The provisions of Section 24.11 shall apply to funeral leave.
Use of Funeral Leave. Upon completion of one (1) year of continuous service, an employee shall be eligible to use up to three (3) days of paid funeral leave for the death of an immediate family member. For purposes of funeral leave, “immediate family member” shall include son, daughter, sibling, spouse, parent, grandparent, grandchild, and in- laws of the same relation. Funeral leave shall not exceed three (3) days in any calendar year.
Use of Funeral Leave. In the event of a death in the employee's extended family, the employee shall be granted three (3) days leave through the day of the funeral with pay for funeral leave. This leave shall not be charged against accrued sick leave and proof of death must be provided to the Police Chief. Bereavement days shall not be counted as sick leave or vacation. However, no employee will be paid twice for the same day, such as a holiday, nor shall an employee be paid sick leave and funeral pay for the same day. Bereavement days must be consecutive workdays, one of which shall be the same day of the funeral or service. For the purposes of this Article, when a qualify- ing funeral occurs on an Employee’s normally scheduled day off, “consecutive workdays” may include the day(s) which fall immediately before or immediately after the Employee’s normally scheduled day off. Proof of death must be given to the Department of Budget and Finance through the Department Director. Employees may use up to eight (8) consecutive hours of accumulated sick leave to attend the funeral services of an aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or first cousin, provided the employee pro- vides satisfactory evidence of the death and the relationship (by blood, marriage or adoption) with the deceased individual.

  • General Leave Notwithstanding any provision for leave in this Agreement, the Employer may grant a leave of absence without pay to an employee requesting leave for an emergency or other unusual circumstances. A leave of absence may also be granted for any other reason in which case approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. All requests and approvals for leave shall be in writing. Upon request, the Employer will give reasons orally for withholding approval.
