Bereavement Days. In the case of bereavement of immediate family (as defined in article IX.G.1 below), employees will be given three (3) days that do not count against personal or sick leave. Additional bereavement days taken will be deducted from sick leave.

Bereavement Days. Section 1. In the event of the death in the immediate family, a Bargaining Unit employee will be granted a four (4) day leave of absence with pay to be charged against his accumulated paid sick leave, or without pay if no accumulated sick leave is available. For such purpose, the immediate family shall be considered to be a father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, legal guardian, or a person who stands in a special filial relationship.
Bereavement Days. In the event of death in the immediate family, an allowance of up to five (5) school days leave may be granted. Immediate family may be considered father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, spouse, domestic partner, child, brother, sister, grandparent, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in- law, daughter-in-law, stepchild or any other relative or friend domiciled with the employee.

Immediate Family is defined as spouse, children, grandchildren, brother, sister, parents, grandparents and parent-in-law, brother/sister-in-law except that a relative living in the same household may, for the purpose of this section, be considered as of the immediate family. Two (2) of the sick days will not be chargeable to the employee's sick day bank.
Bereavement Days. The long-term substitute teacher is entitled to bereavement days as made available by the LTA contract, which is limited exclusively to the long-term substitute teacher’s immediate family.

In the case of death of an uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, in-laws (aunt, uncle), or any other person who at the time of death was living as a member of the teacher’s household the teacher is entitled to be absent two (2) days without loss of compensation, provided, however, said teacher does attend in person the last burial rites of said person, that said burial rites occur while said teacher is performing duties as assigned by the school employer under a valid teacher’s contract, and that said burial rites do not occur during the time when said teacher is absent from assigned duties due to vacation, leave of absence, sick leaves, or leaves for personal business which may have been previously granted or approved by the school employer.

Additional days may be granted in extenuating circumstances, or to travel long distance for funeral services, providing said time has been approved.
