Supervision of Apprentices. Apprentices shall be under the general direction of the Supervisor of Apprentices and under the immediate direction of the Foreperson of the department to which they are assigned. The Supervisor of Apprentices is authorized to move apprentices from one department to another, in accordance with the predetermined schedule of work training. Where an apprentice is retained unavoidably on a scheduled work process for a period longer than the maximum time scheduled for such work process, an explanation shall be sent to the Supervisor of Apprentices who will place it before the Committee for their review at the next meeting. The Supervisor of Apprentices or an individual charged with the responsibility in consultation with the Committee, shall prepare adequate record forms to be filled in by the Foreperson under whom the apprentices receive direction, instruction and experience. Foreperson's shall make a report at least every thirty (30) days to the Supervisor of Apprentices on the work and progress of the apprentices under their supervision. These reports shall be submitted to the Committee for review.

Supervision of Apprentices. (i) The employer will ensure that all apprentices requiring supervision are supervised by a person possessing the appropriate qualifications, knowledge and skill, and who is otherwise a fit and proper person for that purpose.
Supervision of Apprentices. A Company Representative conversant with the schedules of training and work progress shall be appointed to supervise and regulate the training and progress of each Apprentice and to provide periodic reports thereon to the Technical Training Sub-Committee.

The Committee will then recommend the action it deems necessary, including continuation of probationary status, repeating of a specified process or series of processes or termination of the apprenticeship. If terminated, the Registration Agencies shall be advised along with the reason therefore.

If the Apprentice Coordinator finds that an apprentice shows a lack of interest or does not have ability to become a competent tradesperson, he/she shall place all the facts in the case before the Joint Committee for its decision. Under these circumstances, an apprentice may be permitted to continue in probationary status, required to repeat a specified process or series of processes, or his/her agreement may be terminated. The Registration Agencies and the Union shall be advised of all terminations and the reasons therefore.

No apprentice may be retained unreasonably on a scheduled work process or skill set once the employee has demonstrated proficiency in that particular skill. When an apprentice feels that is being retained unreasonably, will review their concern with their supervisor, and if not resolved, will have the issue reviewed with the Joint Apprenticeship m Adequate record forms shall be prepared and will be filled in by the supervisor under whom the apprentices receive direct instruction and experience. Supervisors shall make a report at least every thirty (30) days to the Coordinator of Apprenticeship Programs on the work and progress of the apprentices under their supervision. Tools Apprentices shall procure the hand tools needed and as required and specified by the Company. Such tools may be purchased through the Company under a payroll deduction authorization. A record will be kept by the Company of time spent on the various work processes. An apprentice may be required to work work. Overtime worked by an apprentice shall not reduce the period of apprenticeship unless it work which is covered by the “Schedule of Work Processes” or “Skill Sets” for apprentices, as the case may be.

On the satisfactory comple- tion of the prescribed apprenticeship periods and the passing of all final examinations as may be required, a diploma will be issued by the Department of Labour.

Notwithstanding the provisions of this Collective Agreement between the Company and the Union, of which these Apprentice Standards shall henceforward be a part, an employee with seniority who is selected for an apprenticeship shall be permitted during the apprenticeship to return to their former job classification with the same seniority date that they held immediately prior to becoming an apprentice.
