Professional Working Conditions. The following student maximums* shall be in effect for a FTE classroom teacher, except as otherwise allowed by Site-based councils: Grade K 24 FTE students Grades 9 -12 150 Total students Classes assigned to a portable classroom will have a maximum of two (2) fewer students from the above maximums. Overload numbers shall be prorated for part-time FTE teachers. Before impacting any teacher with students which would exceed the above numbers for each FTE classroom teacher, the building administration shall make reasonable effort to adjust classes and class schedules for balance. For each one full FTE student which exceeds the above numbers, the District shall provide -instructional assistant time each day (55 minutes at the elementary level and 11 minutes at the middle/high school level), or additional compensation to the impacted teacher. Class size shall be measured no earlier than October first (1) and on the fifteenth (15) calendar day of the second semester or first (1) working day thereafter at the secondary level. The District will have ten (10) working days to lower the class size before the above other options will become available.Excluded from these are traditional large classes, such as PE/Health, study hall, debate, outdoor fitness, instrumental and all secondary music. Teaching assistants are not included in class size. If the teacher elects to receive additional compensation the district shall provide compensation as follows: Elementary $750 per student/per semester that exceed the above numbers. Middle School $100 per student/per trimester that exceed the above numbers. High Schoool $150 per student/per semester that exceed the above numbers. This compensation shall be paid in January and/or June. Compensation shall be prorated if the overload is for part of the semester or trimester. Any teacher who has a concern about effective use of laboratory space due to class size should consult with his/her building principal to explore possible remedies. If a classroom teacher has a combination of greater than four (K-5) and six (6-12) ELL and/or I.E.P. students, the District will provide Instructional Assistant** time to that classroom. The building administrator shall consider the balance between individual classes when assigning students to classes. * These numbers are conditioned on the District receiving full state funding at no less than 51:1000 at K-3 and 46:1000 at 4-12 and on the District receiving two levy collections in the school year. ** ...

  • GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS The District has empowered school communities to make decisions at the school level in return for accountability for results. To maximize the likelihood of success, each school must be permitted to implement programs that meet the needs of its students and community. Through a school-based decision-making process, each school will define the staff working conditions necessary for student success. School leadership teams will create and publish annual “school operational plans” which will outline working conditions of staff in the building. Such operational plans will be subject to the Superintendent’s review and approval.
