Critical Illness and Bereavement Leave. Regular employees may be granted absence from duties without deduction in salary for a maximum of three (3) days in the case of critical illness or death of a member of their immediate family. Depending on circumstances and travel involved, further leave with pay of up to two (2) days may be granted upon application to the Secretary-Treasurer. In recognition of the fact that circumstances which call for bereavement leave are based on individual circumstances, the Board, on request, may grant additional leave without salary.

Critical Illness and Bereavement Leave. 14.1.1 A teacher is entitled to not more than five (5) teaching days for each occurrence because of the critical illness and not more than five (5) teaching days for death of spouse, child (including step or xxxxxx child), parent, legal guardian, brother, sister, parents of spouse, grandparents, grandchildren, grandparents of spouse, son- in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, or a relative who is a member of the teacher's household and up to three (3) teaching days to attend the funeral of aunts or uncles, or nieces or nephews of the teacher or spouse, or for close personal friends.

This day can only be used if no personal days remain. The Superintendent’s decision shall be non-arbitrable. Approval of personal days is subject to review of the Superintendent, and the needs of the District. The Superintendent’s decision will be binding and non-grievable.   • SICK LEAVE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE Section 1. a. Employees shall be eligible to use paid sick leave after 30 calendar days of service with the Employer.   • Critical Illness Leave (i) An Employee who has completed at least ninety (90) days of employment, and is a family member of a critically ill child or a critically ill qualified adult relative, is entitled to leave of absence without pay or benefits: • for a period of up to thirty-six (36) weeks to care for their critically ill child; or, • for a period of up to sixteen (16) weeks to care for a critically ill qualified adult relative.

  • Bereavement Leave of Absence An employee who has a bereavement in their immediate family will be granted up to and including five (5) days absence with pay. Immediate family means spouse, (as defined in Section 2(b) of Appendix 2), parents, and child. For this provision “step” relationships are considered as immediate family. An employee who has a bereavement in their family will be granted up to and including three (3) days absence with pay.   • Funeral and Bereavement Leave 19.01 In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee, the employee will be granted leave of absence with pay, with consideration given to travel time for attending the funeral. The length of absence shall be up to three (3) days at the discretion of the Employer. The term ‘immediate family’ shall mean: spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, step-mother, step-father, step-son, step-daughter, step-brother, step-sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, and grandchildren, or any relative living in the household of the employee.   • Bereavement Leave (a) Upon the death of an employee's spouse, spouse to include same sex partner, child or stepchild, an employee shall be granted leave up to a maximum of five (5) continuous calendar days without loss of pay. One of the days of leave shall include the day of the funeral or equivalent service. Additional days off with or without pay may be granted by the Employer. Part-time employees will be credited with seniority and service for all such leave. In the event of a delayed interment or ceremony for reason of religion or other protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code, an Employee may save one of the days identified above without loss of pay to attend the interment or ceremony.

  • Paid Bereavement Leave 12.19.1 An Employee shall be granted a minimum of five (5) regularly scheduled consecutive work days, without loss of pay or benefits, in the case of death or serious illness of the Employee's spouse or common-law spouse.

  • ARTICLE BEREAVEMENT LEAVE An Employee who would otherwise have been at work shall be allowed up to three (3) days’ leave with pay in the event of the death of a member of immediate family and such leave will not be charged against the Employee’s attendance credits. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to obtain the decision of the Police Chief, or designate, as applicable, and for advising the Employee of the decision made.

  • BEREAVEMENT/TANGIHANGA LEAVE 15.1 The employer shall approve special bereavement leave on pay for an employee to discharge any obligation and/or to pay respects to a deceased person with whom the employee has had a close association. Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). The length of time off shall be at the discretion of the employer.
