LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY. 18.01 The Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay and without loss of seniority rights for the following reasons for a maximum period of one month:
a. Marriage;
b. Sickness;
c. Death in the immediate family;
d. Union activity other than this establishment.
18.02 The above shall not preclude extension for personal illness where it is established in an application prior to the expiration of the leave of absence that such request for extension is justified. A doctor’s letter may be required to confirm sickness or disability, the cost of which will be borne by the Employer.
18.03 The immediate family in this Article shall mean - mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, sister, wife, and children of the employee.
18.04 An employee will be granted three (3) days leave of absence with pay, at his regular straight time hourly rate, to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral, or to mourn the death of any one of the employee's immediate family. The days granted shall be between the date of death and the day after the funeral. Bereavement pay shall be paid only for days upon which the employee is normally scheduled to work. An employee shall be granted one day as above for: in-laws other than father-in-law and mother-in-law, grandparents and grandchildren.
LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY. 21.01 The Employer may grant leaves of absence without pay, for a time mutually agreed upon between the Employer and the employee, for the following reasons:
a) Marriage of the employee;
b) Sickness of the employee or employee's immediate family;
c) Birth or adoption of the employee’s child;
d) Union business, other than the establishment of this Agreement;
e) Death of a family member not outlined in Article 21.02;
f) Job related training; or
g) Other personal reasons as approved by the Employer.
h) Other leaves as per Employment Standards
21.02 An employee will be granted a three (3) day leave of absence with pay, at the employee’s regular straight time hourly rate (eight (8) hours per day), to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of the employee's spouse, common law spouse, child, father, mother, legal dependent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, grandparents, and grandchildren. Further time may be granted by mutual agreement between the Employer and the employee. To receive such pay the employee must return to work unless notified during the leave of a layoff.
21.03 Following a leave of absence, employees who fail to report back for work as scheduled without giving a justifiable reason will be deemed to have voluntarily quit.
LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY. 22.01 The Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay for the following reasons:
a. marriage of the employee;
b. sickness of the employee or employee's immediate family;
c. death in the immediate family;
d. Union activity other than this establishment. Union sponsored courses, conference, or hearings;
e. the birth, or adoption of an employee’s child.
22.02 Normally a personal leave of absence as described above shall not exceed one (1) week, unless a longer period of time is granted by the Employer.
LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY. 21.01 The Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay for the following reasons:
(a) marriage of the employee;
(b) sickness of the employee or employee's immediate family;
(c) death in the immediate family;
(d) Union activity other than directly relating to the Employer.
21.02 Leave of absences under Article 21.01 shall not exceed one (1) week unless time is mutually agreed upon between the Employer and the employee.
21.03 An employee will be granted three (3) days leave of absence with pay, at his regular straight time hourly rate, to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of the employee's spouse or child.
21.04 Employees who fail to report for work as scheduled without giving a justifiable reason shall be deemed to have voluntarily quit.

18.03 The above shall not preclude extensions for personal illness where it is established in an application prior to the expiration of the leave of absence that such request for extension is justified.
a. An Employee who has completed the probationary period and is bereaved of a parent, spouse, child(ren), brother, sister, grandchild(ren), mother-in-law, father-in-law, shall be granted a leave of absence of five (5) days with pay for time lost from regular work. The days granted shall be in conjunction with the day of death and the days surrounding the funeral and burial, as well as the settling of the estate.
b. An employee who has completed the probationary period and is bereaved of a grandparent, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, or son-in-law, shall be granted a leave of absence of three (3) days with pay for time lost from regular work. The days granted shall be in conjunction with the day of death and the days surrounding the funeral and burial, as well as the settling of the estate. Employees shall submit documentation in all instances of paid bereavement leave. Acceptable documentation includes: - An electronic message with a link to webpage listing appropriate information - A printout from a website listing appropriate information - A newspaper clipping

21.02 An employee will be granted up to a three (3) day leave of absence with pay, at their regular straight time hourly rate, to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of the employee's spouse, common law spouse, child, father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, grandparent or grandchild. Further time may be granted by mutual agreement between the Employer and the employee. To receive such pay the employee must return to work unless notified during the leave of a layoff.

Adequate notice for leaves of up to four (4) working days shall normally be four (4) working days. Adequate notice for leaves of absence in excess of four (4) working days shall normally be a minimum of two (2) calendar weeks.

19.04 The immediate family in this Article shall mean: designated spouse, mother, father, child, brother and sister. Designated spouse means either a spouse by marriage or common law.
19.05 Relatives include those related by marriage and/or adoption.
a. If an employee is bereaved of a member of his immediate family as outlined in Article 19.04, the employee shall be granted a three (3) day leave with pay to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral. Pay shall be for days that the employee would normally have worked.
b. If an employee is bereaved of a grandparent, he shall be granted a one (1) day leave with pay to attend the funeral.
a. The days granted shall be between the date of death and the day after the funeral.
b. To receive bereavement pay the employee must produce a note verifying attendance at the funeral.
LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY. 22.01 The Employer will grant leaves of absence without pay, for a time mutually agreed upon between the Employer and the employee, for the following reasons:
a) Marriage of the employee;
b) Sickness of the employee or employee’s immediate family;
c) Birth or adoption of the employee’s child;
d) Union activity, other than the establishment of this Agreement;
e) Death of a family member not outlined in Article 22.03;
f) Job-related training;
g) Any leaves granted under the Alberta Employment Standards Code or;
h) Other personal reasons as approved by the Employer, where reasonable.
22.02 Immediate family in this Article will include parents, parents-in- law, spouse, children, brothers, and sisters of the employee.
22.03 An employee will be granted a three (3) day leave of absence with pay at the employee’s regular straight time hourly rate, to make arrangements for and/or to attend the funeral, memorial service, or celebration of life event of the employee's spouse, common-law spouse, child, legal dependent, parents, parents- in-law, legal guardian, brother (in-law), sister (in-law), grandparent(s) or grandchildren. Further time off without pay may be granted by mutual agreement between the employee and the Employer. In order to process this payment, the employee shall provide reasonable proof of the service and relationship to the deceased (i.e. obituary notice, funeral home information, etc).
22.04 The Employees will be granted a three (3) day leave of absence with pay for the birth or adoption of their child.
22.05 Following a leave of absence, employees who fail to report for work as scheduled without giving a justifiable reason will be deemed to have voluntarily quit and will not receive the pay as outlined in Article 22.03.
22.06 Employees will be entitled to receive an amount equal to two percent (2%) of their base rate for all hours worked as sick pay. This amount will be paid to employees on each pay including their final pay at termination of employment.

15.03 The immediate family in this Article shall mean, mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, sister, spouse, fiancé(e), and children and grandchildren of the employee.
15.04 An employee shall be granted a paid leave of absence to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of a member of his family. It is understood and agreed that this provision shall only apply if the employee attends the funeral, and it is further understood and agreed that the paid leave of absence only applies to regular working days. Such leave is paid at three (3) days in the death of a member of the immediate family, and one (1) day in the death of a member of the extended family, and is to be taken between the date of death and the day after the funeral.
