Use of Leave Time. The City agrees to allow at least one twenty-four (24) hour employee to use vacation leave or compensation leave at any one time. With prior approval of the Fire Chief or his designee, additional 24-hour employees may be permitted off if a reserve firefighter is available to fill the vacancy. Minimum staffing and call back procedures must be followed when considering a reserve firefighter. Reserve Firefighter must have all qualifications as the full-time firefighter they are replacing.

Use of Leave Time. An employee may not access any sick or personal paid time off benefits until he/she has satisfactorily completed thirty (30) calendar days of his/her probationary period. In the event of an emergency, up to three (3) days of unpaid leave may be granted at the discretion of the Administration.

Use of Leave Time a. Personal leave shall be used for any purpose at the discretion of the employee. No reason must be given other than personal business. Employees shall be given an accounting of their unused personal leave time on each paycheck advice.

The employee who has, while being gainfully employed or acting as an independent contractor, received benefits under this article, shall reimburse the City for the amount of benefits paid. Failure to reimburse the City, shall result in withholding the annual grant of One hundred fifty-seven and 1/2 (157.5) hours of paid sick leave benefits provided for in Section 1 herein, until the amount of hours improperly paid out are accounted for. Reasonable efforts will be made to schedule routine medical and dental appointments during off-duty hours. For the purposes of this article, "family” shall include children, spouse, parents, registered domestic partners, legal wards, or stepchildren living within the employee household. While stepchildren must live within the employee household, children of the employee may share a residence with other parent. The City will follow all state and federal laws concerning Family and Medical Leave.
