Operating System and Security. ● Always be on the alert for suspicious emails that contain links and websites that ask for personal information such as name, date of birth or passwords. CHROMEBOOK IDENTIFICATION ● Chromebooks will be labeled in the manner specified by the UPS. ● Students will not remove the Chromebook serial number, asset tag number, and name and ID number label. If stickers have or appeared to be falling off, staff and students should take laptop and sticker to the designated repair area in the school CHROMEBOOKS IN UNSUPERVISED AREAS ● Under no circumstances should laptops be left in unsupervised areas. Any computer left unsupervised is in danger of being stolen. INTENTIONAL OR NEGLIGENT DAMAGE Students can be held partially or fully responsible for damages/loss to their Chromebooks. Examples include: ● Liquid/beverage spills on the laptop. ● Deliberate damage, neglect or abuse caused by you or others you allow to use your Chromebook. This includes intentionally marking, defacing and/or abusing the laptop. Also damage caused by tampering with hardware components to alter district configurations. ● Leaving the Chromebook unattended or failing to secure it per school recommendations. ● Leaving the Chromebook in an unlocked car, locker, or on the bus. ● Mysterious disappearance of the laptop - meaning the laptop user has no knowledge as to the place, time, or manner of the loss. By Accepting this Chromebook You Accept these Responsibilities ● I agree to abide by the UPS Acceptable Use Policy, and all local, state, and federal laws. ● I agree that my use of UPS technology is for educational purposes only. ● I agree that use of Uxbridge Public Schools’ technology is a privilege. I am responsible for the proper care of my UPS issued Chromebook. ● I agree to keep all accounts and/or passwords issued to me secure. I will not share this information with any other students. This includes passwords for email. ● I agree that I will never share personal information over the Internet. In addition, if I am asked for personal information or harassed in any way I agree to report it immediately to my parents, teacher and/or UPS staff member. The Chromebook operating system, Chrome OS, updates itself automatically. Students do not need to manually update their Chromebooks. Virus Protection Chromebooks use the principle of “defense in depth” to provide multiple layers of protection against viruses and malware, including data encryption and verified boot. There is no need for additional virus protection. Content Filter The District utilizes an Internet content filter that is in compliance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). All Chromebooks, within the School District network, will have all internet activity monitored by the District. If an educationally valuable site is blocked, a student should contact his/her teacher to request the site be unblocked. When a student is using the Chromebook out of the school network, the responsibility of internet usage is the responsibility of the student and the parent. Repairing/Replacing and Handling of Chromebooks All Chromebooks in need of repair must be brought to the District Library Media Center as soon as possible. Staff will examine the Chromebook and take the appropriate solution path to get the device repaired.

Operating System and Security o USERS may not use or install any operating system on their Chromebooks other than the current version of Chrome OS, which is already on the Chromebook and its equipment managed and loaned to USERS by the GRWDB. o USERS must always be on the alert and notice suspicious emails that contain links and websites requesting for personal information, e.g., name, date of birth, passwords, or financial accounts. GRWDB is not and cannot, in perpetuity, be held responsible for any damages, losses or injuries, physical, financial or otherwise, sustained by USERS as a result of the USERS’s failure to abide by this the Chromebook / Equipment Loan Agreement and Chromebook / Equipment Care and Use Agreement. CHROMEBOOK IDENTIFICATION o Chromebooks and its equipment will be labeled and identified in the manner specified by the GRWDB. o USERS shall not and cannot remove or tamper with the Chromebook and its equipment’s serial number, asset tag number, ID label or any and all labels affixed. LOAN PERIOD EXPECTATIONS USERS are being loaned the Chromebook and all of its equipment for specific goals related to career readiness; the Chromebook and its equipment cannot be used for other purposes. The GRWDB is the sole property owner of the Chromebook and all of its equipment. This means that the GRWDB and those helping manage this loaner program have the right, at any point during the loan period, to require the return of the Chromebook and all of its equipment. GRWDB has the right to review and do whatever it deems appropriate to any and all information contained in/on the Chromebook and all of its equipment, as well as review how the Chromebook and all of its equipment have been utilized by USERS. The Chromebook and all of its equipment is loaned out to USERS for a four(4)-week period by the GRWDB’s Chromebook program partner, the Somerset County Library System of NJ (SCLSNJ). The Chromebook and all of its equipment must be returned on or before their return date to a SCLSNJ location. The only circumstance where an exception applies is where USERS have discussed to extend the loan period with his/her case manager. The USERS’ case manager is the only person who has discretion to determine whether to approve or deny any USERS’ extension requests. At the time of return, the Chromebook and all of its equipment loaned to the user must be returned to GRWDB in the condition they were initially loaned to USERS.
