Leave for President. Upon application in writing by the Union on behalf of the employee to the Hospital, a leave of absence without pay shall be granted to such elected to the position of the President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions for of up to two (2) years. It is understood, however, that during such leave the employee shall be deemed to be an employee of the Union. There shall be no loss of service or seniority during such leave of absence and the employee shall accumulate service and seniority on the basis of what his normal regular hours of work would have been. During such leave of absence, the employee’s salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital on the basis of what his normal regular hours of work would have been, provided that the Union reimburses the Hospital in the amount of such salary and applicable benefits within thirty (30) days of billing. The employee agrees to notify the Hospital of his intention to return to work at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of such return. The employee shall be returned to his former duties on the same shift in the same department and at the appropriate rate of pay, subject to any changes which would have occurred had the employee not been on leave. Notwithstanding Article the Hospital may fill the vacancy resulting from such leave on a temporary basis.

Any employee who notifies the Hospital as soon as possible following a bereavement will be granted bereavement leave for three consecutive calendar days off without loss of regular pay from regularly scheduled hours conjunction with the death of the spouse, child, parent, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, brother-in-law, sister-in-law or grandparent of spouse. The Hospital, its discretion, may extend such leave with or without pay. Where an employee does not qualify under the conditions, the Hospital may, nonetheless, xxxxx a paid bereavement leave.

TAAAC shall reimburse the Board for the total salary and continuing benefits to the President during such leave.
