The Dog Handler clause defines the responsibilities and qualifications required of any individual or entity tasked with handling dogs under the agreement. Typically, this clause outlines expectations such as necessary training, certifications, or experience, and may specify standards for the care, supervision, and control of the dogs. Its core practical function is to ensure that only competent handlers are entrusted with the animals, thereby promoting safety, animal welfare, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Dog Handler. The purpose of this Section is to meet the FLSA requirements. No penalty pay provisions apply to this activity. Employees who are assigned canines will schedule sufficient time during their regularly scheduled workdays to care for the canines. Employees are authorized two (2) hours per week at the straight time rate of pay to cover for any additional time needed to care for the canines. The Department will provide commercial kenneling for the dog when off duty care of the dog exceeds the two (2) hrs/wk allowed for off duty care. If a commercial kennel is to be used, the two (2) hours allowed for off duty care must include transport time to and from the kennel. The Employer shall seek to provide alternative resources for the care of the accelerant canine when the handler is on paid leave. In the event such resources are unavailable in a given situation, the handler will be credited with up to one (1) hour of time worked per day or, if it is a holiday off, receive up to one (1) hour of holiday pay at time and one-half (1 ½).
Dog Handler. A member who is required to perform in the capacity of a Dog Handler shall receive, in addition to regular pay, monthly compensation in the amount of 4.0% of the monthly rate for a 1st Class Constable. Dog Handler.
A. This will be an eight (8) hour position with a unpaid half-hour lunch. The position holder will also get two (2) fifteen (15) minute breaks without the dog and student.
Dog Handler. The City will pay a 5% premium to canine officers for the special assignment of canine officer. The parties agree that any time spent off duty caring for the dog will not constitute overtime under the MOU, but may be considered for FLSA overtime purposes if the hours worked caring for the canine increases the number of hours worked to more than 171 in a 28 day pay cycle. Any hours over 171 hours in a 28-day cycle which are attributable to dog care will be compensated at one and one-half times the applicable minimum wage. In order to ensure proper canine care, the parties have met and conferred and agree that the reasonable number of hours the officers spend shall be no more than 3 overtime hours per 28 day pay cycle for dog care, which equates to 1.5 overtime hours per pay period.

Dog Handler. A Police Officer assigned to Dog Handler duty shall be compensated at a rate 5% higher than the employee’s actual hourly rate of pay for all hours in a paid status. This 5% compensation is in consideration of the officer’s efforts in caring, feeding, and transporting the animal for the base number of hours these activities take each month. Dog Handler. During the time an employee is assigned the additional duties of “dog handler” that employee shall receive an increase to base salary of five (5) percent. Employees so assigned shall have no vested rights to such assignment and may be reassigned at the discretion of the Chief Probation Officer for operational reasons.
Dog Handler. Any employee serving as a dog handler for the County shall receive a premium pay of five percent (5%) of their base salary while serving in that capacity to cover time spent in the care, feeding, and grooming of the K-9. This amount is predicated on a differential wage rate for canine care equal to minimum wage except when taking canine to veterinary care.
