University Consultancy means any services provided by a Staff Member as part of any agreement between the University (or a related body corporate as defined in the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth)) and a third party (including a third party of which the University is a member), whether the Staff Member is a party to that agreement or not.

University Consultancy means a recognised consultancy arranged through the University, Division or academic area that generates income. Proceeds from University Consultancies can be used to provide additional personal remuneration, provide salaries for support staff, resources, services or infrastructure to the Division in which the work is undertaken. With a University Consultancy, a contract is entered into between the University (through the Division of Research and Development) and the external client. With a University Consultancy staff are covered by Workers' Compensation and University Insurance policies. Income derived from the consultancy is paid to the University in the first instance and payment is transferred to a Divisional Consultancy account after the University recoups an overhead fee of 15%.At the completion of a consultancy, income returned to a Division account is University income and does not attract taxation. Where proceeds from consultancies are distributed to academics/consultants through the payroll system in accordance with this policy then the income is taxable. When approving a consultancy in accordance with this policy, the Executive Dean will negotiate with the academics/consultants the distribution of private income or allocation of a benefit arising from the consultancy. The Executive Dean will provide advice to the Pro Vice Chancellor (Research) of the agreed distribution.
