Students at the School who are English Language Learners will be served by English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certified personnel who will follow the Sponsor’s Plan for English Language Learners (XXXx), as it may from time-to-time be amended, or an alternate plan that is compliant with federal and State law, the META consent decree and has been approved by both the Sponsor and the Florida Department of Education. English for Speakers of Other Languages. The ESOL element of the partnership aims specifically to address the language and cultural inequalities that people who do not have English as a first language may face. It focuses on maintaining and extending Dundee College, the City Council and voluntary sector ESOL Outreach delivery across Dundee. This is done working with community partners, such as Dundee International Women’s centre. Provision is targeted at learners who are taking first steps into learning and is delivered in a community outreach model through a network of Community Centres; Schools and Voluntary Sector venues. This partnership working aims to: • increase language skills and employability and work towards gaining an SQA qualification indicators; • promote skills to support applications for citizenship; • Develop confidence to progress to other learning/community opportunities; and • Reduce isolation and increase participation in wider society. College Regionalisation Dundee as a city has strong ambitions for its citizens and the surrounding region that it serves. The highly ambitious waterfront development will transform the infrastructure of the city, bringing inward investment, tourism and jobs to the wider region. This transformation will require skills and education services in order to succeed. The merged Dundee and Angus College will contribute to that success and has significant ambitions for both the institution that will be created and the learners that it will serve. Their contribution to the Dundee Partnership will continue and be enhanced as good practice in supporting schools, social work departments, NHS, and other community planning partners. The relationships and articulation routes with Dundee and Abertay Universities will be strengthened by enabling more students within the College to progress seamlessly to higher education programmes.

English for Speakers of Other Languages. (ESOL) learning and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is supported within Edinburgh College in two separate curriculum areas – College-based ESOL and ESOL within the community. Our College-based ESOL delivery provides progression for students through ESOL and into vocational college courses, higher education or better employment. English language and employability skills are at the centre of these courses with many full-time courses also offering vocational units to help bridge the gap for learners as they move into other subject areas. College-based ESOL also works closely with the College’s International team to deliver a wide range of accredited and bespoke English language and teacher training programmes both in the College and in-country. Our Community-based ESOL curriculum runs classes from beginner to higher level and targets individuals and groups who are 5o4fteEndoinvbeurrcgoh mCoinlleggeenormous barriers to integration. Learners are often seeking asylum or UK Citizenship, and are often part of non- English speaking communities where they struggle to integrate with the wider community. Classes are held in community centres, libraries, community high schools and other venues that allow learners to study part-time during the days or in the evenings, meaning studies can be fitted around work and children’s school times. Reading and writing workshops are run in addition to classes, and every week 85 classes are delivered by trained volunteers in the homes of learners who are unable to join a class at this time due to personal circumstances. Edinburgh College ESOL departments have always worked in close partnership with Edinburgh Council and the voluntary sector to co-ordinate English Language services for learners. With the recent change to ESOL strategy funding these, partnerships are now widening to include East Lothian and Midlothian. Collaborative working is underway to plan for the changes in funding arrangements and ensure access for all learners is maintained and widened where there is unmet demand. A strategic forum was established in the region in October 2017, led by the College and meeting on a monthly basis. Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian councils have contributed to an audit by the College of ESOL delivery in the region using SFC credit-based funding methodology.
