Department Safety Committee. The Department Safety Committee will be chaired by the Fire Chief or his designee and membership will consist of three bargaining unit members as determined by the Fire Chief or his designee. The primary function of this committee will be to focus on internal solutions to safety problems and review of accidents in accordance with City safety administrative directives.
Department Safety Committee. The Police Chief may appoint up to three (3) Association members to a Department Safety Committee for purposes of reviewing Town procedures and practices and recommending measures to improve the safety and security of employees, the Department and Town.

Staffing. The provisions of Policy #22 that were effective 12/17/12 shall remain in effect during the term of this 2022-2026 collective bargaining agreement. Paid on premise personnel shall not be used to determine the staffing levels covered by said policy. Nothing herein shall be interpreted to limit the City’s authority under Section 3.1.1 of SOG #0- 304 and /or Section 3.1 of this Agreement to change the staffing levels. In the event the City is aware that an employee will be off for an extended period of time (in excess of 30 days) and the City desires to change the staffing levels, the Union will be given two (2) calendar days’ notice of such change in staffing levels for the affected shift(s). In the event the City desires to change the staffing levels, the Union will be notified in writing 30 days prior to the proposed changes. At the Union’s request, the City will meet to discuss alternative solutions. Such discussions will not have the effect of delaying implementation of the City’s proposed change. The terms of this Section shall be effective for the duration of the current Agreement. Nothing shall prevent either party from seeking to change this provision in subsequent negotiations or interest arbitrations. Further, should either party seek to change the provisions of this Section, the terms of this Section shall not be considered as the status quo.
Department Safety Committee. There is hereby established a Department Safety Committee, which shall meet as often as necessary, but in any event, not less than once each quarter at a mutually agreed time and place. The Safety Committee shall jointly check fire extinguishers, consider, inspect, investigate accidents, consider needed training, consider needed safety equipment, and shall make constructive recommendations with respect to the foregoing matters, which recommendations shall be communicated in writing to the Public Works Director for consideration. Meetings will be held during working hours and minutes of all meetings of the Safety Committee shall be kept. Time spent by the employee members of the Safety Committee in committee meetings shall be considered as and compensated for their regularly assigned work.
