Use of Sick Leave for Family. A bargaining unit member shall be allowed to use his/her accumulated sick leave in accordance with the provisions of this article to attend to his/her own personal illness or illness of any member of his/her immediate family. “Immediate family” for the purpose of sick leave shall be defined as spouse/domestic partner, child, parent, person for whom the bargaining unit member is the legal guardian, and any person who resides within the bargaining unit member’s household and qualifies as a dependent under the IRS definition. If use of sick leave is anticipated or develops into a period in excess of three (3) consecutive work days, the Member may be required to provide a medical statement to Human Resources and complete the forms necessary to determine whether the member is entitled to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits. The medical statement must include a statement of the nature of the illness or disability and an estimated return to work day. If a Member anticipates a continuing need to use sick leave on an intermittent basis for a single illness or disability that is likely to extend beyond three intermittent days, the member may be required to provide a medical statement to Human Resources and complete the forms necessary to determine whether the member is entitled to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits. The medical statement must include a statement of the nature of the illness or disability and an estimated duration of the condition or illness. If a Member’s use of sick leave displays a pattern of abuse including but not limited to exhaustion of the Member’s sick leave, repetitive use of sick leave to extend a weekend or vacation period, repetitive late entries of sick leave in the attendance system etc., the Member may be called to a meeting to discuss his or her sick leave usage. If the Member cannot satisfactorily explain his or her sick leave pattern, Human Resources may require a medical statement for sick leave usage in the future. The Member may ask an Association Representative to attend such a meeting but it will be the Member’s responsibility to arrange Association attendance. Sick leave days may also be granted for the serious illnesses of other family members upon approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Use of Sick Leave for Family. 12.8.5.1 In cases of illness of a family member, an employee’s sick leave entitlement for the year can be used to attend to the illness of a spouse, domestic partner, parent, or child.

  • Use of Sick Leave a. An employee, other than a casual employee, with responsibilities in relation to a class of person set out in subparagraph (ii) of paragraph (c) of this sub-clause, who needs the employee’s care and support shall be entitled to use, in accordance with this sub-clause, any current or accrued sick leave entitlements provided for in clause 18 of the award, sick leave, for absences to provide care and support for such persons when they are ill.   • Use of Sick Leave Credits An employee may draw from the employee’s sick leave credits in conjunction with Workers’ Compensation payments to equal, but not exceed, the employee’s regular daily rate of pay. When the insurance company makes payment, the Town shall be reimbursed for that portion of sick leave covered by insurance and the employee will be re-credited with the proportional amount of sick leave. An employee may not use vacation or personal leave credits to supplement Workers’ Compensation.

  • Uses of Sick Leave Sick leave shall be granted to an employee upon approval of the Employer and for the following reasons:

  • Donation of Sick Leave The District shall allow unit members to donate sick leave to individual employees who have suffered long-term disabilities or illnesses. Donating unit members shall retain a thirty (30) day balance of sick leave after their donation and may donate no more than twenty-five (25) days of sick leave per year. The donation form is Appendix I. Part-time faculty may receive sick leave donations from any employee, and may donate accumulated sick leave to other part-time faculty following the same requirements as outlined above. Part-time faculty may not donate sick leave to full- time employees.

  • Accumulation of Sick Leave The unused portion of an Employee's sick leave shall accrue for her future benefit, up to a maximum of one hundred and thirty (130) days.

  • Utilization of Sick Leave Employees who have accrued paid leave time shall be eligible for paid leave for any period of absence from employment which includes but is not limited to the employee’s illness; injury; temporary disability; medical or dental care; or to attend to members of the employee’s or the employee’s spouse’s immediate family or domestic partner or domestic partner’s immediate family, where the employee’s presence is required because of illness or as otherwise required by the state or federal Family Medical Leave Act or other State law. The Employer may, in its sole discretion, require reasonable proof of illness or disability and/or certification of the necessity of the employee’s absence.

  • Definition of Sick Leave Sick leave means the period of time an Employee is absent from work because of disability due to illness or injury not covered by Workers’ Compensation.
