Substitute Employee. A person who takes the place of an employee on a non-permanent, day-to-day basis, until the regularly assigned employee returns or is replaced.

Substitute Employee. A substitute employee means any person employed to replace any bargaining unit employee who is temporarily absent from duty.

Substitute Employee. If a substitute is required for a faculty member, arrangements shall be made by the appropriate administrator. The substitute shall be given a contract. (It may be a temporary contract or a part-time hourly contract, depending upon the circumstances). Nothing herein shall be construed to require the District to provide substitutes or to compensate faculty for replacing one another except in unusual circumstances approved by the appropriate administrator.
Substitute Employee. As used in this Section, means any person employed to replace any classified employee who is temporarily absent from duty. In addition, if the District is then engaged in a procedure to hire a permanent employee to fill a vacancy in any classified position, the Governing Board may fill the vacancy through the employment, for not more than eighty (80) working days, of one (1) or more substitute employees, except to the extent that a side letter provides for a different period of time. The parties acknowledge that there may be circumstances where it is not possible to fill a position within 80 working days and the District may ask CSEA for a side letter extending the period. For the purposes of this section, ”working days” are defined as days during which the District administrative offices are open to the public as identified on the Gavilan College annual District Calendar. (Education Code Section 88003)
Substitute Employee. A “substitute employee” works less than 50 consecutive work days in the same position, on the same bus route or for the same person. If a substitute employee works more than 50 consecutive work days in the same position, on the same bus route or for the same person, they become a long-term temporary employee. The District will not change assignments or discontinue employment only for the purpose of avoiding inclusion of a substitute employee in the bargaining unit.
