SENIORITY AND PROBATIONARY PERIOD DEFINED. The first six (6) months of employment of any employee newly hired into a position covered by this agreement shall be a period of probation. An employee's probationary period may be extended for an additional six (6) months after written notice to the employee and the union. At any time during the period of probation the employee may be discharged without any showing of cause and without recourse to the grievance procedure. Seniority shall date from the date of hire into a bargaining unit position and is available for use after completion of the probationary period. Seniority shall cease to accrue if an employee is laid off, transferred or promoted out of the bargaining unit, or during a leave without pay in excess of thirty (30) calendar days. Seniority shall be forfeited upon termination or after a layoff in excess of one (1) year. Seniority is not transferable between bargaining units or other units of the university system.

  • SENIORITY AND PROBATION Regular Seniority or Casual Seniority shall not be recognized by the Employer during the Probationary Period.

  • Promotional Probationary Period An employee who has previously completed the requisite probationary period and who is rejected during a subsequent probationary period for a promotional appointment shall be reinstated to the former position from which the employee was appointed.   • Probationary Period A new employee will be considered on probation until he has completed forty-five (45) days of work (or 337.5 hours of work for employees whose regular hours of work are other than the standard work day), within any twelve (12) calendar months. Upon completion of the probationary period he shall be credited with seniority equal to forty-five (45) working days. With the written consent of the Hospital, the probationary employee and the President of the Local Union or designate, such probationary period may be extended. Any extensions agreed to will be in writing and will specify the length of the extension. The release or discharge of an employee during the probationary period shall not be the subject of a grievance or arbitration.
