Mid-year hires. Any probationary professor who is hired for an assignment beginning after the end of a fall semester shall be given a first-year employment contract covering the following three academic semesters. California Education Code §76095, states in part “…A faculty member shall be deemed to have completed his or her first contract year if he or she provides service for 75% of the first academic year.” Mid-year hires shall be evaluated in the first semester of assignment with classroom visitations only. An evaluation team shall be appointed using the process defined in 18.I.2.b, and classroom visitations shall occur for each preparation sometime in the first semester of the assignment. For the sole purpose of the probationary evaluation process, mid-year hires shall be considered as entering into the first probationary year in the first fall semester of the assignment. At that time all evaluation processes and timelines shall be followed as defined in sections 18.I.3. for the first probationary year, 18.I.4 for the second probationary year, and 18.I.5 for the third and fourth probationary years.

Upon the effective date of this contract, for any new individual who is hired on or prior to the last day in December, the year will count as one (1) year for purposes of salary and vacation computation. If an employee is hired after the last day in December, the year will not count as a year toward vacation computation.

Mid-year hires. Teachers hired for vacancies occurring after January 1 of a school year will have their first evaluation due by February 15 and the second evaluation due by June 1. The Board shall act on the renewal or nonrenewal of these limited teaching contracts by June 1 of each year. This action shall supersede the procedures and dates set forth in O.R.C. 3319.11(B)(2) and 3319.111 and shall be the sole procedure utilized by the Switzerland of Ohio Local Schools for mid-year hires.
