Meal Periods and Meals. The Parties acknowledge and agree that it is the EMPLOYER’s policy and practice to conform to the requirements of State and federal law regarding meals and nothing set forth herein shall be interpreted to conflict with State and/or federal law.

Employees working in the jail shall be eligible to receive a meal, furnished by the County from the jail kitchen, as compensation to the employee for inability to take a meal period away from the work site. It is the responsibility of the employee to schedule his or her meal period at an appropriate time and to coordinate with the Jail Manager, or designee, when it is practical.

Not more than one meal period shall be deducted from work time for an employee during the minimum call. A second meal period may be deducted from work time for those employees who work in excess of the minimum call. The minimum guarantee of work time after an evening meal shall be one and one-half (1½) hours. This guarantee does not apply when such meal is supplied at the Company’s expense.
