Teachers electing this coverage may also apply for dependent coverage in multiples of $5,000, from $5,000 to $300,000 for the spouse not to exceed the amount of the teacher’s supplemental coverage. Teachers electing supplementary coverage for themselves may also elect dependent life insurance in the amounts of $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000 for each dependent child under age 19. Premiums for all supplementary coverage must be paid by the individual teacher through payroll deduction. Life insurance coverage is reduced by 35% when an employee reaches age 70.
