Conditions for Leave Without Pay. Upon return from a leave without pay, the employee is guaranteed first opportunity for an appropriate equivalent position, except for RIF applications affecting the employee's position. Benefits accrued prior to a leave without pay shall be retained by the academic employee. An academic employee granted a leave without pay shall have the opportunity of keeping any contributory insurance plans in force, during the leave, by making pre- payments consistent with provisions of the underwriter.

Conditions for Leave Without Pay. (1) Management shall guarantee the full-time academic employee a position upon return from family/medical, temporary disability, and government service leaves. Furthermore, management shall guarantee the employee a position upon return from other leaves without pay if, prior to granting the leave, this fact is established in writing by the College President.
Conditions for Leave Without Pay. Return to the exact position vacated is at the discretion of the Superintendent and the Board. However, every effort shall be made to return an employee to the same position held before the leave of absence. Such absence shall not qualify an employee for a year of service credit. Any employee granted a leave who, during such leave accepts any employment not stated in the application for such leave or otherwise approved by the Superintendent, shall be deemed to have resigned. However, a minor employment shall be accepted. Any employee granted such leave may continue group health and accident insurance coverage by making arrangements with the Superintendent to pay the entire cost himself or herself in advance of each quarterly period. A substitute employed to fill vacancies caused by such leave will be notified of his or her status upon employment. Written notice shall be filed with the Superintendent by March 15 of the leave year of the teacher's intention to return to his or her duties in the District.
Conditions for Leave Without Pay. Leave of absence for up to one (1) year only without pay may be granted to unit members after the first year of service, if approved by the Board of Trustees. This discretionary leave is in addition to any kind of leave listed in previous sections of this Article. Reasons for an unpaid leave may include illness, accident, study, family care or a need for rest and recuperation (in which cases leave may be extended after the first year, if the Board of Trustees so permits), advanced professional training, and teaching outside the United States.
