Applications shall be presented as early as possible, but not less than sixty (60) working days prior to the effective date of the intended leave. Leaves of absence not to exceed six (6) months may be granted by the Employer for any reasonable purpose and may be extended to a maximum of one (1) year. What constitutes a reasonable purpose in each case shall be determined by the Employer. Employees elected to any Union office or selected by the Union to do work which takes them from their employment with the Employer, shall, at the written request of the Union, be granted a leave of absence. The leave of absence shall not exceed one (1) year.
