Attendance at Meetings and Conferences. Meetings, conferences, symposiums and seminars at which concerns vital to the profession are the subject of discussion are recognized by the District as an inherent part of the employees' professional obligation. Such leaves may be granted by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with the following procedure with the understanding the Superintendent may grant contingent approval based upon availability of substitutes.

Such attendance at professional meetings and conferences shall include the following:

Attendance at Meetings and Conferences. Leaves of absence without deduction of pay and with reimbursement of certain approved expenses shall be granted to teachers to attend professional meetings or visit other schools upon written request to the Superintendent. When necessary, the District shall provide substitute certificated teachers to perform the duties of teachers who have been granted leave to attend professional meetings.
Attendance at Meetings and Conferences. Upon written request to and approval by the superintendent or Human Resources director, employees shall be released for attendance at professional meetings (i.e., workshops, seminars, symposiums, training sessions, conferences, meetings) except those pertaining to Association-related business, unless provided for in this Agreement. Travel and per diem expenses (i.e., lodging, meals, travel, materials and registration fees) may also be granted as requested in the written request. Attendance at such approved meetings shall be with no loss of pay and the District shall provide substitute teachers as it deems necessary.
