Distant/ Away Work. Where an employee volunteers to be transferred to a distant site, they shall not be entitled to living away allowances or travel expenses. Where an employee is specifically requested to transfer to a distant site, they shall be entitled to living away allowances. All arrangements regarding distant sites shall be formalised in writing and witnessed by another employee. The selection of employees for away work shall be solely at the discretion of the Company.

Distant/ Away Work. For the purposes of this clause "distant project" work is one where the location of the on site project work is such that because of its distance or because of the travelling facilities available to and from the location it is reasonably necessary for an employee to live and sleep at some place other than their usual place of residence. When an employee is sent (other than at their own request), to work at a distant project as defined, the employer after consulting with the affected employees, may elect to:

Provided that the foregoing allowance will be increased if the employee satisfies the employer that they have reasonably incurred a greater outlay than that prescribed. It is acknowledged by all parties that both the employee and employer have an obligation to ensure that this is not abused by an employee and that employees must obtain suitable accommodation. In the event that the Company reasonably feels that an employee is not complying with this obligation then the Company will provide the employee with reasonable board and lodging in a well kept establishment with three adequate meals each day Arrangements for working away will be formalized in writing and witnessed by another employee.   • Shift Work Shift work is work not in excess of ordinary hours (ie 38 hours per week), but carried out wholly or partly between the hours of 7.00pm and 7.00am, Monday to Friday. Shift work is work scheduled at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of the shift. Employees required to work shift work will be paid at time and one quarter of the ordinary rate per hour for ordinary hours worked.
