University Students. Brock historically has had a very large percentage of students who are the first in their family to attend university. In 2015-16, Brock initiated “Trailblazer’s Week” – a University-wide celebration of the advantages to students who are the first in their family to attend a post-secondary institution. A series of videos were produced that asked current undergraduate and graduate FG students to speak to their time at Brock, and the challenges and advantages they experienced. In our Learning Commons, a series of display cases highlighted celebrities who were themselves first-generation students. A promotional table in a high-traffic area recognized the accomplishments of FG students. Additionally, FG staff talked one-on-one with FG students to offer congratulations and asked non-FG students about the experiences of the first person in their family to attend university.
