Research Use definition

Research Use shall have the meaning given in Section 2.2.2 of this Agreement.
Research Use means the use by the User, or Affiliated Entity, of Banked Material, Original Data and Additional Data for all research purposes. For clarity, ‘research purposes’;
Research Use means the use of results or background needed to use results, for all purposes other than for completing the action or for direct exploitation and which includes but is not limited to the application of results as a tool for research, including clinical research and trials and which directly or indirectly contributes to the objectives set out in the Societal Challenge health, demographic change and well-being referred to in Regulation (EU) No 1291/2013.

Examples of Research Use in a sentence

  • A user approved by the relevant Data Access Committee(s) to access one or more datasets for a specified period of time and only for the purposes outlined in the Principal Investigator (PI)’s approved Research Use Statement.

  • They must also submit a Cloud Computing Use Statement as part of the DAR that describes the type of service and how it will be used to carry out the proposed research as described in the Research Use Statement.

  • The information includes the PI’s name and Requester, project name, Research Use Statement, and a Non-Technical Summary of the Research Use Statement.

  • If the Approved Users plan to collaborate with investigators outside the Requester, the investigators at each external site must submit an independent DAR using the same project title and Research Use Statement, and if using the cloud, Cloud Computing Use Statement.

  • If the Approved Users are provided access to controlled-access datasets subject to the NIH GDS Policy for inter-institutional collaborative research described in the Research Use Statement of the DAR, and all members of the collaboration are also Approved Users through their home institution(s), data obtained through the attached DAR may be securely transmitted within the collaborative group.


More Definitions of Research Use

Research Use means discovering, developing and optimizing an Alnylam Product or an Isis Product, as applicable, up to, but not including, [***], and/or conducting pilot manufacturing studies of an Alnylam Product or an Isis Product, as applicable. Research Use may include small pilot toxicology studies. With respect to Isis, Research Use does not include studies [***] for potential drug targets, but does include studies [***] for development of Double Stranded RNA Products or Single Stranded RNAi Products, as applicable, from among potential targets for which a reasonable scientific basis exists for believing that such potential targets are associated with a particular disease or condition.
Research Use means use for internal research (which includes research services provided to third parties (“Third Party Research Services”), provided such services are not Commercial) and specifically excludes any act by Customer, or if permitted by Customer and the terms of this Agreement, a third party to:
Research Use means use for internal research (which includes research services provided to third parties (“Third Party Research Services”), provided such services are not Commercial) and specifically excludes any act by Customer, or if permitted by Customer and the terms of this Agreement, a third party to: (a) use the Goods or Software other than in accordance with this Agreement, the Specifications, Oxford’s instructions or the Documentation; (b) use the Goods or Software in a manner that requires grants of rights or a license to Application Specific IP; (c) use Consumables, where such use is a re-use of a previously used Consumable; (d) use the Goods or Software for clinical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures where validation or registration of the Goods, Software, or protocols using the Goods or Software with regulatory authorities is required or use the Goods for any Commercial or other non-research purpose; (e) use the Hardware in conjunction with reagents or consumables not sold by Oxford or not Approved; (f) use the Consumables in conjunction with non-Oxford hardware, flow cells or devices; (g) modify or create any derivative works of the Goods (except to the extent applicable laws specifically prohibit such restriction); (h) copy the Goods or Software except as approved in writing by Oxford (except to the extent applicable laws specifically prohibit such restriction); (i) separate the Goods into their component parts; (j) reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive the composition of the Goods or Software (except to the extent applicable laws specifically prohibit such restriction); (k) extract or isolate components of the Goods or subject them to non-authorized analysis; (l) gain access to or determine the methods of operation of the Goods or Software; (m) redistribute, encumber, sell, rent, lease, sublicense or otherwise transfer rights to Goods or Software; or (n) remove or alter any trademark, logo, copyright or other proprietary notices, legends, symbols or labels in or on the Goods or Software or components thereof.
Research Use means use for Research, specifically excluding any use that (i) is not in accordance with the Product’s Specifications or Documentation, (ii) requires grant of rights or a license to Application Specific IP or Affiliate Application Specific IP, (iii) is a re-use of a previously used Consumable, (iv) is the disassembling, reverse-engineering, reverse-compiling, or reverse-assembling of the Product, (v) is the separation, extraction, or isolation of components of Consumables or other unauthorized analysis of the Consumables, (vi) gains access to or determines the methods of operation of the Product, (vii) is the use of a non-Illumina reagent/consumable with Illumina Hardware (unless the Specifications or Documentation state otherwise), or (viii) is the transfer to a third-party of, or sub-licensing of, Software or third-party software. “Sample […***…]” means […***…]. For clarity, Sample […***…] includes at least the following steps: […***…].
Research Use means the use of foreground or background necessary to use foreground for all purposes other than for completing the project or for direct exploitation;
Research Use means internal Processing of Licensed Data and internal use of Results solely for non-profit research purposes. Without limitation, Research Use excludes any Commercial Use.
Research Use shall have the meaning set forth in the definition of Exploitation.
