Leave of Absence Without Pay or Benefits. 13.01 A Sessional Faculty Member with a Continuing Appointment may apply in writing to the Department Head or Equivalent for a leave of absence without pay or benefits. Such applications must have a start date and end date that coincide with an academic term, and shall not normally be for a period exceeding one academic year. Extensions of leave up to a further period of one academic year may be applied for in writing within a reasonable period of time prior to the expiry of the initial leave.

Leave of Absence Without Pay or Benefits. An employee may apply for a leave of absence without pay or benefits for up to one (1) year. The approval or denial of such leave shall be at the discretion of the employer. Other employment may not be taken during the leave. An employee on an approved leave of absence shall retain the seniority which had previously been accrued. Return from leave shall be to an available position. Employees on leave must submit by April 1 a written request to return from a leave for the following August or ninety (90) calendar days prior to the end of the approved leave. Any employee who does not submit a written request shall be considered terminated, and the employer shall have no obligation to said employee.
