Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. The City may require competent proof of an employee’s illness, disability, or of an employee’s need to attend a member of his/her immediate family when it has reason to suspect that an employee is abusing sick leave. Reasons for suspecting abuse of sick leave may include any of the following:

Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. The parties recognize that abuse of sick leave days interferes with the Department’s productivity and is unfair to the great majority of officers with good attendance records. The parties pledge to devote their best and continuing efforts to develop and maintain a system for monitoring sick leave days usage and for providing a reasonable degree of assurance that sick leave days are not abused. The Employer recognizes the unique aspects of police work, and therefore the impracticality of employing those procedures used for controlling sick leave abuse among other employees in the service of the City of Springfield. In developing procedures for controlling sick leave abuse among officers, the Employer shall consult with and seek the participation of the PBPA.
Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. It is understood that the abuse of sick leave shall constitute just cause for progressive disciplinary action, up to and including discharge. In this regard, it is both the responsibility as well as the intent of the City to take such corrective action. Sick leave will not be granted to an employee for the purpose of being compensated for employment elsewhere. Employees who engage in employment elsewhere during such leaves will be terminated by the City.
Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. Excessive use or abuse of sick leave benefits shall be subject to progressive disciplinary action up to and including termination. Abuse of sick leave shall include, but is not limited to, falsification of reasons for leave, and failure to follow City procedures for reporting an absence

  • Abuse of Sick Leave Misuse of leave, violation of orders, directives, or contractual requirements concerning the use of sick leave and other forms of leave used in lieu of sick leave are cause for disciplinary action.

An employee, other than a casual employee, with responsibilities in relation to a class of person set out in subparagraph (ii) of paragraph (c) of this sub-clause, who needs the employee’s care and support shall be entitled to use, in accordance with this sub-clause, any current or accrued sick leave entitlements provided for in clause 18 of the award, sick leave, for absences to provide care and support for such persons when they are ill. Such leave may be taken for part of a single day.

  • Use of Sick Leave Credits An employee may draw from the employee’s sick leave credits in conjunction with Workers’ Compensation payments to equal, but not exceed, the employee’s regular daily rate of pay. When the insurance company makes payment, the Town shall be reimbursed for that portion of sick leave covered by insurance and the employee will be re-credited with the proportional amount of sick leave. An employee may not use vacation or personal leave credits to supplement Workers’ Compensation.

  • Paid Sick Leave Employees shall earn and be granted paid sick leave according to the following provisions:

  • Utilization of Sick Leave Employees who have accrued paid leave time shall be eligible for paid leave for any period of absence from employment which includes but is not limited to the employee’s illness; injury; temporary disability; medical or dental care; or to attend to members of the employee’s or the employee’s spouse’s immediate family or domestic partner or domestic partner’s immediate family, where the employee’s presence is required because of illness or as otherwise required by the state or federal Family Medical Leave Act or other State law. The Employer may, in its sole discretion, require reasonable proof of illness or disability and/or certification of the necessity of the employee’s absence.

  • Overload Compensation ‌ An instructional faculty member may be given overload compensation for additional instructional responsibilities beyond the normal work day or work year. The conditions and compensation of all overload duties shall be established prior to the beginning of additional instructional work. The rate of compensation shall be paid on a prorated salary basis. When calculating the prorated hourly salary under this section, the academic year salary shall be divided by 1344 hours. Faculty members have the option of refusing additional work assignments: when this occurs the rate of compensation will be agreed upon between the employer and the faculty member.

  • Uses of Sick Leave Sick leave shall be granted to an employee upon approval of the Employer and for the following reasons:

  • Use of Vacation Leave for Sick Leave Purposes The Employer may allow an employee who has used all of his or her sick leave to use vacation leave for sick leave purposes as provided in Article 12.2 A. An employee who has used all of his or her sick leave may use vacation leave for sick leave purposes as provided in Article 12.2 B – H.

  • Unpaid Sick Leave The City Manager shall, upon the advice and recommendation of the City physician, grant unpaid sick leave for up to one (1) year upon application of any employee whose paid sick leave is exhausted. Any extension of such leave shall be subject to the Civil Service Board rules.
