Building and Construction Industry definition

Building and Construction Industry means all building construction and all heavy, highway and engineering construction, including but not limited to the construction, erection, alteration, repair, modification, demolition, addition or improvement in whole or in part of any building, structure, street (including sidewalk, curb and gutter), highway, bridge, viaduct, railroad, tunnel, airport, water supply, irrigation, flood control and drainage system, sewer and sanitation project, dam, power-house, refinery, aqueduct, canal, river and harbor project, wharf, dock, breakwater, jetty, quarrying of breakwater or riprap stone, or any other operation incidental to such construction work, including renovation work, maintenance work, mill-cabinet or furniture manufacturing or repair work or installation of any modular systems or any other premanufactured materials preformed for any public or private employer. Building and Construction Industry for the purpose of this Award means plumbing work in or in connection with the excavation, erection, construction, repair, renovation, maintenance, demolition or prefabrication of buildings and/or structures and/or civil engineering works.

  • All Employees covered by this Agreement are entitled to long service leave on full pay under, subject to, and in accordance with, the provisions of Division 9, sections 93-114 of the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (Qld) as amended from time to time, or the provisions of the Building and Construction Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 1991 (Qld).

Building and Construction Industry work means all type of work done on a particular building or work at the site thereof, including, without limitation, altering, modeling, painting and decorating, the transporting of materials and supplies to or from the building or work by the employees of the construction contractor or construction subcontractor, and the manufacturing or furnishing of materials, articles, supplies or equipment on the site of the building or work in the construction or development of the project by persons employed by the contractor or subcontractor. For this purpose, the terms “building” and “work” include construction activity as distinguished from manufacturing, furnishing of materials, or servicing and maintenance work. The terms “building” and “work” include, without limitation, buildings, structures and improvements of all types, such as bridges, dams, plants, highways, parkways, streets, subways, tunnels, sewers, mains, powerlines, pumping stations, heavy generators, railways, airports, terminals, docks, piers, wards, ways, lighthouses, buoys, jetties, breakwaters, levees, canals, dredging, shoring rehabilita- tion and reactivation of plants, scaffolding, drilling, blasting, excavating, clearing, and landscaping. The manufacture or furnishing of materials, articles, supplies or equipment is not a “building” or “work” unless conducted in connection with and at the site of such a building or work. The “site of work” is limited to the physical place or places where the construction will remain when work on it has been completed and, to the extent provided below, other adjacent or nearby property used by the contractor or subcontrac- tor in such construction which can reasonably be said to be included in the “site.” Fabrication plants, mobile factories, batch plants, borrow pits, job headquarters, tool yards, etc., are part of the “site of work” provided they are dedicated exclusively or nearly so, to performance of the contract or project, and are so located in proximity to the actual construction location that it would be reasonable to include them. Not included in the “site of work” are permanent home offices, branch plant establishments, fabrication plants, and tool yards of a contractor or subcontractor whose locations and continuance in operation are determined wholly without regard to a particular contractor project.
