Borrow Pits. If because of an insufficiency of suitable material for use in back filling of trenches, road formation or if because of other circumstances the Engineer so agrees or orders, the Contractor shall supply such materials from borrow pits. The Contractor shall obtain the approval of the Engineer to the location of borrow pits and shall adhere to instructions in regard to the area, width, depth and slope of the borrow pits and also to the depth of overburden if any, which has to be removed. Prior to excavating materials from borrow pits, the Contractor shall strip all unsuitable overburden and lay it aside. The use as fill of this and other unsuitable material will not be permitted. After the use of a borrow pit has been finally discontinued, the overburden and any other unsuitable material previously laid aside shall be replaced in the pits, spread and levelled as required. The sides of the borrow pits shall be graded and the whole area shall be left in a tidy, regular and self-draining state, all to satisfaction of the Engineer. In case of payment for imported fill such fill will be measured solid, after compaction net as shown on Drawings. Supply of material from borrow pits shall, except where otherwise specified, be deemed to cover supply, spreading and compaction of the fill in the works and any other costs the Contractor might have including negotiations with owners, stripping and handling of overburden and the satisfactory reinstatement after completion.
Borrow Pits. Add the following:
Borrow Pits. Borrow pits are covered under the ITP for a five-year period ending on March 1, 2004.
1. PALCO shall utilize the same mitigation requirements for borrow pits as those required for roads, including the prohibition on new borrow pits in the RMZs, prohibition on new borrow pits in the mass-wasting areas of concern prior to watershed analysis, road construction/reconstruction standards, and wet weather operations.
2. Borrow pits will be mapped and analyzed for site-specific and hydrologic unit scale impacts as part of watershed analysis. Additional mitigation and minimization measures for borrow pits may be required as a result of watershed analysis. Additional mitigation may include, but is not limited to, installation of sediment control structures, limitations on overburden placement and distribution, removal of spoil material, revegetation, and abandonment.
3. The wildlife agencies commit to work with PALCO to process an amendment to the HCP to continue coverage of borrow pits after the expiration of the initial five-year period.
Borrow Pits. No borrowing of materials is permitted on site. All imported materials shall be from commercial sources.
Borrow Pits. No borrow pits will be allowed to be opened on the Site.
Borrow Pits. Scheme of Works
(1) There shall be no Commencement of Development until a scheme for the working and restoration of [the/each] borrow pit forming part of the Development has been submitted to, and approved in writing by, the Planning Authority in consultation with SEPA. The scheme shall include:
(a) a detailed working method statement based on site survey information and ground investigations;
(b) details of the handling of any overburden (including peat, soil and rock);
(c) drainage measures, including measures to prevent surrounding areas of peatland, water dependant sensitive habitats and ground water dependent terrestrial ecosystems from drying out;
(d) a programme of implementation of the works described in the scheme; and
(e) details of the reinstatement, restoration and aftercare of the borrow pit[s] to be undertaken at the end of the construction period, including topographic surveys of pre-construction profiles and details of topographical surveys to be undertaken of the restored borrow pit profiles.
(2) The approved scheme shall thereafter be implemented in full following Commencement of Development and inline with the timescales set out in the approved scheme. Reason: To ensure that excavation of materials from the borrow pit(s) is carried out in a manner that minimises the impact on amenity and the environment, and to secure the restoration of borrow pit(s) at the end of the construction period.
Borrow Pits. The BUYER(S) shall obtain written approval in advance for the locations of borrow pits from the Borough. This does not guarantee the approval of borrow pits. Materials removed from these borrow pits shall be used only on main haul, secondary haul roads, and other improvements in connection with the Contract.
Borrow Pits. If required, fill material which includes structural fill and general fill as specified in Sections 6.1,6.2 and 6.3 shall be obtained from outside borrow pits approved by the Engineer. Samples of fill and laboratory test results shall be submitted to the Engineer for prior approval.
