Vacancy Replacement. If unassigned to Firefighter vacancy, Floater/Paramedics may be used to cover Paramedic vacancies on Paramedic staffed units. Paramedics will have the first right of refusal for call shift opportunities on Paramedic staffed units following the callboard rules. If no Paramedics take a given call shift, the shift may then be offered up to Firefighter/Paramedics. If a Paramedic shift goes mandatory, the Paramedic work group will be mandated to work first, then the Firefighter/Paramedic group if no Paramedics can work.

Vacancy Replacement. An employee temporarily assigned, at the direction of the Company, to a classificationother than his regular classification shall be paid his regular base hourly rate or the classification rate of the job to which he is transferred, whichever is higher. The Company will fill vacancies with Utility Operators first and then by offering such transfer to senior, qualified employees on the shift, in a classification that the Company deems able to be reduced. If no employees volunteer for such transfer, the Company will transfer the junior, qualified employee in that classification. For any vacancies that remain unfilled, the Company will ask the appropriate employees for overtime. The Company will ensure that overtime is called by the lowest hours in the vacancy that exists (excluding Utility Operator); if a Utility Operator has been temporarily assigned to this vacancy; they will be moved to another vacancy.
Vacancy Replacement. Whenever the District fills a vacant position on a temporary promotion basis, the employee will earn appropriate compensation immediately upon assignment to the vacant position. Such compensation will continue until the vacant position is filled or the assignment is withdrawn. If a vacancy is filled by employment outside of the classified service, that appointment may continue until the position is filled, or 195 days, whichever comes first.
