Meetings with Union Representatives. Regular formal meetings with the elected union representatives of both teaching and support staff are essential for effective communication. These should have agendas to which all parties can contribute items. Meetings should normally be minuted and these minutes circulated to all relevant staff. The frequency of meetings should be mutually agreed, but no less than 4 meetings per session is strongly recommended. Monthly meetings timetabled at the start of each school year would constitute a model of good practice. Such procedures can help defuse problems before they become acute. The development of good working relationships between management and union representatives should be fostered by both sides. The national SNCT and devolved JNCT agreements should be implemented following discussion at school level as appropriate. Meetings with Union Representatives. If the employee wishes to discuss a problem or potential grievance with a Union representative, the employee will have the right to contact and meet with the Union representative on duty time. The Employee will be released from duties to contact and meet with the Union representative when he/she requests to exercise this right, unless there is a pressing operational necessity. If staffing requirements or operational necessities prevent immediate release from duty, the Employer agrees to inform the representative and the employee of a different time and date for the meeting.
