Criteria for Use. When utilizing the authority granted under the FAR Part 51 deviation, all of the following criteria need to be met.
Criteria for Use. Educational days and funds must be used for bona fide education related to the nurse’s current position or likely nursing opportunities within the Medical Center, which will benefit both the Medical Center and the nurse. Educational offerings for basic core competencies required for the nurse’s current position shall be excluded. The days and funds utilized for non-mandatory in-house educational offerings shall be limited to formalized public class or workshop offerings typically associated with CEU credits or nursing practice enhancement, unless otherwise approved by the Professional Nursing Care Committee. The funds may also be utilized for reimbursement to a nurse for the cost of a certification or re-certification examination upon the nurse’s successful completion of the examination. The PNCC shall determine compliance with these fund criteria. The Medical Center may require nurses to make oral and/or written presentations regarding their educational experience to other Medical Center staff.
Criteria for Use. Programs for which educational leave is available 12 shall be related to the practice of nursing within the Hospital. Such education 13 leave shall be available for programs sponsored by other hospitals, educational 14 institutions, governmental agencies or professional associations, as well as 15 Hospital-sponsored educational programs and seminars requested by the nurse.
Criteria for Use. Programs for which educational leave is 5 available shall be related to the practice of nursing within the Hospital. Such 6 education leave shall be available for programs sponsored by other hospitals, 7 educational institutions, governmental agencies or professional associations, as 8 well as Hospital-sponsored educational programs and seminars requested by the 9 nurse.

The days and funds utilized for non-mandatory in-house educational offerings shall be limited to formalized public class or workshop offerings typically associated with CEU credits or nursing practice enhancement, unless otherwise approved by the Professional Nursing Care Committee. The Committee shall determine compliance with these fund criteria. The Agency may require nurses to make oral and/or written presentations regarding their educational experience to other Agency staff.

Educational days and funds must be used for 35 bona fide education related to the nurse’s current position or likely nursing 1 opportunities within the Medical Center, which will benefit both the Medical 2 Center and the nurse. Educational offerings for basic core competencies 3 required for the nurse’s current position shall be excluded. The days and funds 4 utilized for non-mandatory in-house educational offerings shall be limited to 5 formalized public class or workshop offerings typically associated with CEU 6 credits or nursing practice enhancement, unless otherwise approved by the 7 Professional Nursing Care Committee. The funds may also be utilized for 8 reimbursement to a nurse for the cost of a certification or re-certification 9 examination upon the nurse’s successful completion of the examination. The 11 may require nurses to make oral and/or written presentations regarding their 12 educational experience to other Medical Center staff.
Criteria for Use. The nurse’s manager, or designee, shall grant requests for paid professional development leave hours and professional development funds for bona fide voluntary educational programs related to the nurse’s current position or nursing opportunities within the Medical Center. Such leave time or use of professional development funds must be approved in advance by the nurse’s manager. The manager will respond to a request within fourteen (14) calendar days. No funds will be denied without a written explanation. Educational offerings for basic core competencies required for the nurse’s current position shall be excluded. The funds may also be utilized for reimbursement to a nurse for the cost of a certification or re-certification examination, upon the nurse’s successful completion of the examination, that qualifies for pay under article 9.10. The Medical Center may require nurses to make oral and/or written presentations regarding their education experience to other Medical ONA/PHMC Collective Bargaining Agreement February 1, 2020 April 1, 2024 through March 31, Page 71 202824 Center staff. In addition, if a nurse utilizes the funds and does not attend the bona fide education they shall not be compensated for their time or the cost of such education. The Employer will provide the designated bargaining unit representative with professional development leave use and disbursements under this Article, upon written request.

Educational time off must be used for bona fide education related to the nurse’s current position or likely nursing opportunities within the Medical Center, which will benefit both the Medical Center and the nurse, and may include testing fees and time spent in non-mandatory certifications or maintenance of non-mandatory certification. Testing fees shall be reimbursed to the nurse upon delivery of passing certificate copy to the Medical Center. Funds may be put towards educational materials such as books, magazine subscriptions, etc. (as long as deemed relevant to nursing practice under previously stated criteria). Educational offerings for basic core competencies and other requirements for the nurse’s current position shall be excluded. This includes approved online offerings. The Medical Center may require nurses to make oral and/or written presentations regarding their educational experience to other Medical Center staff. The Professional Nurse Practice Council shall review compliance, in an advisory capacity, in the application of these criteria.
