Approval of Unpaid Leave. Leaves of absence without pay may, if requested by the employee, be approved by the College. The College reserves the right to implement unpaid leaves of absence in the event of physical or mental disability of the employee. Employees whose extended leave of absence is approved are required to deplete appropriate accumulated leave banks at the beginning of their leave. (Sick leave can only be used for illness or emergency as shown in Article 14, Section F). Leaves of absence will not be granted to employees who cannot continue to perform their job due to relocation or where the purpose of the leave is to seek or perform work elsewhere.

Approval of Unpaid Leave. A unit member shall not be eligible for an unpaid leave until the unit member has attained permanent status and has completed at least three years of service to the District. For good cause, the Director of Human Resources may determine that a temporary or probationary unit member with three years of District service is eligible for an unpaid leave. Unit members qualifying for leaves mandated by the California Pregnancy Disability Act (“PDL”), the CFRA, or the FMLA need not have attained permanent status or completed three years of service. Unpaid leaves shall be for a period of one year. The unit member may apply for up to a maximum of one additional year of unpaid leave. All unpaid leaves of absence require Governing Board approval. Approval of all requests for unpaid leave is solely at the Governing Board’s discretion.

  • Short-Term Unpaid Leave Up to two days of unpaid leave may be granted for extenuating circumstances that are deemed to be unavoidable by the administration. Teachers should submit a letter outlining the circumstances as soon as possible in advance of the date(s) requested. Teachers should plan for special events, trips, etc. by accumulating and utilizing personal business leave as stated in Article 19.2.

  • Extended Unpaid Leave Upon written request, a permanent employee who has completed two (2) years of service shall be granted unpaid leave to a maximum of twelve (12) months, subject to the operational requirements of the Employer's operations and the availability of qualified replacement staff. An employee shall be entitled to up to a maximum of twelve (12) months unpaid leave for each two (2) years of service with the understanding that no employee can have more than twelve (12) consecutive months of unpaid leave at any one time. While on such leave employees shall continue to accumulate service, unless they would have been otherwise laid off, for seniority purposes only. The minimum amount of unpaid leave an employee may have under this Clause is eight (8) weeks. An employee will not be granted extended unpaid leave to take another position with the same Employer whether inside or outside a bargaining unit.

  • Volunteer Firefighting Leave Leave without pay will be granted when an employee who is a volunteer firefighter is called to duty to respond to a fire, natural disaster or medical emergency.

  • Extended Unpaid Maternity Leave (a) An employee is entitled to apply for leave without pay following Maternity Leave (“extended unpaid Maternity Leave”) to extend their leave by up to two years.

  • Other Unpaid Leaves It is agreed that this provision will be interpreted in a manner consistent with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Employment Standards Act.
