Standby List. Where standby is required, employees within a Division or a group of Divisions (or in the case of Recreation: within a Facility or a group of Facilities), interested in performing standby duty within that Division or that group of Divisions (or in the case of Recreation: that Facility or that group of Facilities), will place their name on the Standby List. Standby Duty will be assigned in order of seniority on a rotating basis from among those names. If Standby Duty is refused by the employees, the Corporation may require the most junior employee(s) capable of performing the Standby to perform Standby Duty.

Standby List a) When an employee is advised that they are on "standby", that is, immediately available by telephone contact, to attend an unscheduled alarm event outside of regular scheduled hours of operation, they shall be paid in accordance with the following schedule: For each seven (7) hours of standby for inside employees - one (1) hour pay. For each eight (8) hours of standby for outside employees - one (1) hour pay. For Holidays listed in Article 22.01 - two (2) hours per day plus one (1) day in lieu for each Holiday on call. Employees called out shall be paid for a minimum of two (2) hours. Any additional calls received within the initial two (2) hours shall be paid at overtime rates outlined in Article 19.02. Acknowledging a SCADA alarm is not considered a call out. 2022 - 2026 Agreement 21 CUPE Local 374 & The District of Sooke "Standby" duty shall be equally divided amongst the employees qualified to perform the work. Employees shall have the right to trade "standby" duty with other qualified employees provided they notify their supervisor of the change.
