Promotional Eligibility. A PSEM law enforcement officer who successfully completes the transition and becomes an APD Officer shall be eligible to take the promotional examination for the rank immediately above Police Officer upon completion of five (5) years of service. For purposes of calculating the required five (5) years of service, all service with APD after the Transition Completion Date plus up to three (3) years of continuous service in PSEM immediately prior to the effective date of this Article shall be counted toward the requirement.
Promotional Eligibility. Officers hired through the Modified Hiring Process must meet the same promotional eligibility requirements as Austin Police Department officers hired through the Department’s regular initial hiring process.
Promotional Eligibility. All Bargaining Unit promotions shall come from within the Bargaining Unit. Fire Mechanic and Firefighter Paramedic Classifications shall be exempt from this requirement. All eligible employees applying for a promotion to a Bargaining Unit position must meet the qualification standards of education, training, experience and other requirements for the position. In order to be eligible to take an officer promotional examination, the candidate must not have been suspended for twenty four (24) hours or greater during the twelve (12) months preceding the closing date for the written examination and until the date the examination process is completed. For the purpose of disciplinary action and promotional examination eligibility, the effective date of the discipline shall be the date an employee signs written communication acknowledging notification of the disciplinary action and/or suspension. An involuntary demotion shall be considered as equivalent to a suspension of twenty four (24) hours or greater for the purposes of promotional eligibility.
