Year Seminar. A student who enters in the second semester of the first year must complete that semester of the seminar. A student who transfers into the College after the second semester of the first year is exempt from the seminar.

Year Seminar. All First-Year students are required to take two semesters during their initial year at Bard. (Second semester First-Year transfer students are required to participate in the program for one semester.) The Seminar is a writing-intensive course in which the student is introduced to important literary, philosophical, artistic, and scientific ideas, both historical and contemporary. Classroom time is primarily devoted to the close study of major works, which are chosen to represent a wide range of intellectual discourse. The focus of the seminar may change from one year to the next and is to be defined by the directors in consultation with the Faculty Senate.
Year Seminar. The information about transfer equivalencies provided at the website named above provides students with information on how some previously earned credit will transfer and, thus, will automatically satisfy specific University Studies requirements. Transfer students may find, however, that, while courses taken at other institutions satisfy requirements there, those same credits may not fulfill University Studies requirements at UNCW. In those instances, students may, in consultation with an advisor, submit a Substitution/Waiver of Degree Requirements form in order to have previously taken coursework considered for the following University Studies requirements:  Lifetime Wellness  Composition  Mathematics and Statistics  Foreign Language  Aesthetic, Interpretive, and Literary Perspectives  Historical and Philosophical Approaches  Scientific Approaches to the Natural World  Understanding Human Institutions and Behaviors  Living in Our Diverse Nation  Living in a Global Society  3-6 hours of Thematic Transdisciplinary Cluster requirement; students completing a second major or a minor are exempt from the Thematic Transdisciplinary Cluster requirement. Students may also work with their advisors to submit a Petition for Crediting a University Studies Competency Requirement in order to have previously taken coursework considered for the general education Writing Intensive and Information Literacy requirements, as well as for the Quantitative and Logical Reasoning requirement. Year Seminar. First-Year Seminar courses introduce students to the pursuit of intellectual inquiry. Seminars are designed to provide an opportunity to interact with outstanding faculty members while exploring nontraditional topics in nontraditional ways. One first-year seminar is required as part of UMW’s general education program. (Transfer students are not required to take a first-year seminar.) While there will be many different courses offered, everyone will not be able to enroll in a seminar in the fall semester. Students who do not take the course in the fall should sign up for it in the spring semester.   • Petition for Annual Conference Session The Local Church acknowledges that pursuant to the governing standing rules of the Annual Conference, petitions for consideration of the legislative body must be submitted to the Secretary of the Annual Conference on or before April 1 of the current Annual Conference year. The Annual Conference will make reasonable efforts to assist the Local Church in completing the required petition, which will include this Disaffiliation Agreement as an attachment thereto making it subject to public review. If the petition is not filed in a timely manner, the Parties will make good faith efforts under the standing rules of the Annual Conference to cooperate to bring the petition to the legislative floor for consideration by appropriate motions to suspend the standing rules for the purposes of considering the petition.
