Seawall. The City is engaged in an effort to prepare for a major earthquake and to create more resilient City infrastructure. As part of this effort, the Port is developing a plan to strengthen the Northern Waterfront Seawall which stretches from Fisherman’s Wharf to Mission Creek (“Seawall”) to maintain viability of Port’s operations, increase protection of Port and City assets, and enhance life safety in the face of degradation, flooding, earthquakes, climate change, and security hazards. The Seawall was constructed over 100 years ago within the Bay and supports reclaimed land, or fill, and as a result is more vulnerable to seismic risk. Earthquake performance of reclaimed land is an issue for coastal communities worldwide. The Seawall Earthquake Vulnerability Study of the Northern Waterfront Seawall, San Francisco, California July 2016 and information about Port and City’s resiliency goals and plans and improvements can be found on the Port’s website at: xxxx://xxxxxx.xxx/seawall. Seawall. 6.7.4 The as-built record drawings for the south seawall are included in Appendix 6.2. According to the as-built plan the crest level of the south section of seawall varies from +4.27 mPD to +5.31 mPD and the length of the southern seawall is approximately 857 m. The gradients of the upper rock armour slope and lower rock fill slope are both 1:1.5 separated by a berm approximately 3m wide at the level of approx. -1.5mPD. The berm will not be exposed even under extreme low-tide. The toe level of the south section seawall is approximately -10 mPD, giving an overall height of seawall of over 14 m. The primary armour above the 3 m wide berm of the south section seawall is ‘rock fill category 5’ and according to the site observation, the size of this rock fill is similar to the 2 tonne armour of the north section seawall. The primary armour below the berm was not exposed during the site inspection and so no size measurements were carried out. This section of former runway seawall was constructed in 1970.
