FLASH sound distractionary devices may be used when a low-lethality diversion is necessary to enable an entry to be made or an arrest or detention effected in a manner consistent with the element of surprise and where their use may increase the likelihood of safely resolving the problem. • Only those officers trained and qualified in flash/sound diversions will utilize the same. • The devices shall be deployed in accordance with training. • A fire extinguisher will be brought to close proximity to the target area prior to deployment if possible. • In the unlikely event that an injury occurs the appropriate medical aftercare shall be provided. • The deployment shall be documented in the after-action report.
