Opening Ceremony. 19.1. The Opening Ceremony will take place on the site of the competition or in the city hosting the competition as follows:
Opening Ceremony. 2.1 The Organiser undertakes that it will provide rostrum or reviewing property for the President or his duly appointed representative (as the case may be), the Secretary General of the IWWF, the Chairman of the Tournament Council, the President and Secretary General of the host Confederation, the President of the host Federation, the President of the Organising Committee and for those dignitaries invited by mutual agreement between the IWWF and the Organiser and including such persons as IOC members, politicians, government officials, sponsors, former medal winners from the host delegation etc. The Organiser undertakes that if reasonably practical the other members of the Executive Board (with preference to the members from the host Confederation) shall also have priority.
Opening Ceremony. Following the announcement of the opening ceremony and the cultural and sporting programme, the delegations, in tracksuits or any other suitable attire, will file past preceded by a sign with their country's name on; either in its entirety or its abbreviation, in the language of the host National Federation, or the Olympic names or the abbreviations approved by the IOC; and their national flag. The sign bearers will be provided by the host National Federation. They will lead the delegations to line up opposite the area reserved for the officials. The delegations will enter in alphabetical order to music. The host country will enter last followed by the referees and the technical officials. When all the delegations are present, the flag of the host country and that of the FILA and the IOC for FILA Championships as well as for Olympic qualifying events; (the IOC flag must never be used together with any "advertising material" in any photographic or video report) will be raised. Prior approval from the IOC must be obtained. These flags remain hoisted for the entirety of the event. The President of the host National Federation will make a speech, followed by the FILA President who will declare the event open or will delegate this honour to the highest authority present. The President of the IOC, the President of the host country or the Sports Minister can also be asked to make speeches. The following text is used to declare a competition open: "In the name of ……… I declare the ….Senior World Wrestling Championship open". The opening ceremony lasts 30 minutes including the sporting and cultural events.

Opening Ceremony. A week-long event is planned to coincide with the start of Imbolc at the beginning of February. The week will begin with a turf-cutting ceremony on St Brigid’s Day (1 February) Fire ceremonies are planned on subsequent nights in six towns across Galway County from 2 to 7 February, gradually moving closer to the Galway City. Each night will see the lighting of specially commissioned spheres unique to each town. Local artists & musicians will be involved in the fire festivals with participants drawn from the local area. The six towns are: • Clifden • Spiddal • Portumna • Ballinasloe • Tuam • Athenry The week’s events will culminate in a large-scale event in Galway City on Saturday 8 February with participants from the County towns playing a central role. Wonder Works are working with a local community cast and local technical teams and suppliers where appropriate. They will work with local agencies and authorities to create a spectacular, memorable, free event. Detailed planning is ongoing between Wonder Works and the Galway 2020 team. Every member of the Galway 2020 team is involved in the delivery of the event from the selection of poets and performers, the recruitment of community cast and volunteers, to site & event management. We are currently in discussions with our ECOC partner city Rijeka to establish what sort of reciprocal moments might be included in each other’s Opening Ceremony

They will work with local agencies and authorities to create a spectacular, memorable and safe event. Detailed planning meetings are taking place between Wonder Works and the Galway 2020 team. Every member of the Galway 2020 team is involved in the delivery of the event from the selection of poets and performers, the recruitment of community cast and volunteers, marketing and communications, sponsorship agreements, site and event management. The celebrations will start with a symbolic turf cutting ceremony on St Brigid’s day and fiery festivals will erupt in towns across the county over six consecutive nights from Sunday February 2 culminating in a final breath-taking open-air event in Galway city on Saturday February 8.
