Travel for Training and Professional Development. The parties recognize the widespread geographic nature of the organization and that employees will be required to travel outside their regular working hours to attend training, professional development and/or retreats. Travel distance will be calculated between the employee’s primary office or home, whichever is closer, to the location of training. Where the travel distance (one way) is greater than 100 km, the employee will be compensated for travel time, excluding the time the employee would normally spend commuting to or from work, at their straight time hourly rate to be taken as lieu time. Such lieu time is to be taken at a time mutually agreed upon between the employee and their manager. Arrangements for travel to training must be pre- approved by the employee’s manager. It is understood that employees will be compensated for the travel time which is necessary in the circumstances. This article does not apply to American Sign Language Classes.

Such leaves are granted to increase an employee's value to the University through enhanced opportunities for professional renewal, educational travel, study, formal education, research, writing, or other experience of professional value, not as a reward for service.

  • Professional Development Plan Professional Development Plan (PDP) refers to plans developed by faculty members addressing the criteria contained in Article 22 and Appendix G.

Funds may be used for the purpose of improving job performance, maintaining and increasing proficiency, preparing Lieutenants and Sergeants for greater responsibility, or increasing promotional opportunities. Management must approve of the specific professional development request in advance. Denial will require written notification to the requesting Lieutenant or Sergeant.
