Level One - Informal Discussion. Within thirty (30) days of the time the grievant first had knowledge, or reasonably should have had knowledge of the action upon which the grievance is filed, whichever occurs first, the grievant will discuss the grievance with the immediate supervisor, with the objective of resolving the matter informally. The grievant shall identify the discussion as a possible grievance discussion.
Level One - Informal Discussion. An individual shall discuss the grievance with the appropriate Building Principal or Director (as applicable) in an attempt to resolve the matter.

Level One - Informal Discussion. The grievant shall first discuss the concern directly with the principal or immediate supervisor with the objective of resolving the matter informally. Such informal discussion shall be initiated by the grievant within fifteen (15) days after the grievant first knew of the event, problem, or condition upon which the grievance is based. At the time the grievant initiates the informal discussion with his/her principal or immediate supervisor under this Level One, the grievant will inform the principal or immediate supervisor that this is the intent of the discussion.

In the event that a teacher believes there is a basis for a grievance he shall first discuss the alleged grievance with his building principal within fourteen (14) calendar days of the occurrence of which complaint is made, either personally or accompanied by an Association representative. The principal shall have up to fourteen (14) calendar days to reply to the grievance, provided that if he knows that the solution is beyond the scope of his authority, he will immediately so declare.

An employee with a grievance shall first discuss it with his/her Immediate Supervisor or Building Principal, either individually or with a representative, to try to prevent it from becoming a formal grievance. Unless stated to the Administrator at the initiation of the discussion that such discussion is a Level One Informal Discussion, or so stated when it had become one subsequent to the initiation of the discussion, it shall not be deemed as one for purposes of the informal level of the Grievance Procedure. As part of the Immediate Supervisor/Building Principal’s response at Level One, the Administrator shall consider whether he/she has the authority to grant the relief or action the grievant seeks; if the Administrator determines that he/she does not have the authority to resolve the grievance, the Administrator will so notify the grievant in writing and direct the grievance to submit his/her grievance to Level Three. The Administrator will provide a copy of his/her disposition to the Superintendent.

An employee with a grievance shall first discuss it with his/her Immediate Supervisor, or other appropriate administrator, either individually or with a representative, to try to prevent it from becoming a formal grievance entailing the use of the following procedure. The grievant will announce that the discussion represents Level One of the grievance procedure. Failure to initiate the grievance at this step shall deem the grievance null and void.
