Common use of Funeral/Bereavement Leave Clause in Contracts

Funeral/Bereavement Leave. Employees shall be granted time off from work, with pay, to a maximum of five (5) consecutive scheduled work days for the death of a spouse, parent, or child. Employees shall be granted time off from work with pay, to a maximum of three (3) consecutive scheduled work days, in the event of death of a brother or sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in- law, grandparents, stepparents, stepchild and grandchild or any relative living in the household of the employee.1 1 It is agreed that step-relationships and in-laws are also included. The days of leave provided for in this article will be paid, provided that they are taken consecutively and include the day of the funeral and provided that they correspond to scheduled days of work for the employee. Employees may split their entitled time off between bereavement and time of service.
