Civic Leave Section 1 - Election Board Employees may be granted leave for public services on Election Boards with compensation for the difference between payment for election Board duty and the regular salary, provided the school salary is greater.
Academic Leave Subject to the recommendation of the President/Superintendent and to approval of the Board of Trustees, academic leave may be granted to full-time tenured faculty members for the purpose of academic study or work experience related to their area of instruction for a period of one or two semesters. Individuals granted this type of leave will not receive salary from the District during the period they are on academic leave. Volunteer Leave Subject to operational requirements as determined by the employer, and with at least five (5) business days’ notice, an employee shall be granted one (1) day of paid leave per fiscal year to perform volunteer work for an organization, community activity or charity, other than activities related to the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign, including those determined by or supported by the employer. The notice to the employer shall include the nature of the volunteer work that the employee wishes to perform. This leave may be divided in two (2) periods of three decimal seven five (3.75) hours and be taken on two (2) separate days.
Religious Leave Religious leave shall be without pay unless the employee elects to use accumulated compensatory time off, vacation time, or floating holiday time. Denial of religious leave is appealable as provided elsewhere in this section.
Medical Leaves of Absence When recommended by an employee's personal physician in writing, a medical leave of absence for a three (3) month period will be granted by the Sheriff. Such leave may be extended for a like three (3) month period or shorter period, within the sole discretion of the Sheriff, up to a maximum of one (1) year. Such extension, if granted, shall be based upon the written certification by the employee's physician that the continued illness or disability precludes the employee from working and the continuation of the leave of absence is necessary. Such leave, up to a maximum of three (3) months, if granted, will be allowed and credited as continuous county service, i.e. seniority continues for the three (3) months only. The employee shall be entitled to his former position or a position for which he is able and capable of performing upon return to work. A medical leave of absence shall be without pay and other fringe benefits, except an employee may use his accumulated sick leave time and accumulated vacation time to avoid loss of wages during such leave.
Professional Leaves 1. Professional Leaves are to be used by an employee to gain knowledge for the position contracted through Bath Local Schools. The employee must request Professional Leave through the employee kiosk. Upon approval, the employee may be permitted to attend the Professional Meeting and will be paid at the regular rate.
Civic Duty Leave A. Employees summoned for jury duty will be granted a leave of absence with pay for time lost from their regular work schedule while on said jury duty upon presentation of the appropriate summons to the department head by the employee.
Education Leave (a) If required by the Employer, an employee shall be entitled to leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority and benefits to write examinations to upgrade his or her employment qualifications.
