Childcare Phase. Where the requested leave dates are beyond the period of disability associated with pregnancy and is for childcare purposes, as defined above, the tenured supervisor shall be granted, at her discretion, a leave for (a) the balance of the school year in which the birth occurred, or (b) the balance of the school year in which the birth occurred and the entire following school year. Supervisors on maternity leave desiring to switch from option (2) (a) to option (2) (b) shall notify the Superintendent by March 15 of the year in which the maternity leave was taken. Any further extensions of childcare leave shall be discretionary with the Board of Education. The Board need not grant or extend the leave of absence of any non-tenured supervisor beyond the end of the contract school year in which leave is obtained.

Members on maternity leave desiring to switch from option (a) to option (b) shall notify the Superintendent at least twenty (20) school days prior to the intended return date, except in cases of emergency or extenuating circumstances. Any further extensions of childcare leave shall be discretionary with the Board.
