Benefits While on Compensation. Employees who are absent from work and in receipt of Workers’ Compensation Board wage loss replacement benefits shall be considered as being on Unpaid Leave of Absence, except that seniority and benefits shall be applied as follows: • seniority hours shall continue to accrue; • accumulative benefits shall continue to accrue; • the Health and Welfare provisions will continue to apply. An employee must apply for sick leave pay to cover periods of actual time lost from work owing to sickness or accident. Where medical and/or dental appointments cannot be scheduled outside the employee's working hours, a sick leave day with pay shall be granted, from accumulated sick leave credits or an unpaid day will be granted if no sick leave credits are available. The Employer may require an employee to substantiate a claim for sick leave payment.
