Abandonment of Duties. Severance of a teacher for abandonment of duties shall occur when a teacher fails to report for work for a period of ten (10) consecutive work days without notice, provided the College has sent a certified “next day mail” letter requesting return to work to the teacher’s last address on file with the College, and provided the teacher has no reasonable explanation for failure to notify the College of the reason(s) for absence. Severance under this Article shall not be subject to review under the Tenure Provision of the contract but shall be subject to review through the Grievance Procedure.

Abandonment of Duties. Absences from normal working days, whether whole or partial, will be considered unauthorized leave. Unauthorized leave of three (3) or more days, consecutive or not, during which an employee has not reported to work, provided that extenuating circumstances have not prevented the employee from complying with this requirement, shall be cause for automatic termination of employment. Unauthorized leave may not be filled using accrued leave and will result in a deduction in pay equivalent to the amount of the absence.
